Are L3 security missions worth salvaging?

I have a merlin w/ 3 salvagers and a micro warp drive that could salvage and loot the cruisers/battlecruisers, would it be worth it? I get around 2096 isk per LP btw.

Not really, no. People debate whether level 4s are worth it, and they have a hell of a lot more goodies than level 3s.

Why bother skilling salvaging if you're not going to use it?

Personally I salvage everything, and a decent L3 can bring a few mil in salvage that pays for the ammo.

Solecist Project...." They refuse to play by the rules and laws of the game and use it as excuse ..." " They don't care about how you play as long as they get to play how they want."

Ah but the question is whether already taking the next "decent L3" may bring you more in bounties and LP in the same time you'd get those "few mil" to pay for the ammo.

OP could test a bit to find the answer to this question. The answer may well turn out to be that it depends on the mission.

i just locked an open door.. strange, yet symbolically compelling.

True, I just use my alt in a Noctis to follow from room to room so i'm just about doing both in nearly the same amount of time.

Worth it?

If it's fun, then salvage.

It's a game, not a paid occupation.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

It depends how fast you're doing them. Salvaging an L3 takes, what, 5 or 10 minutes? Work out how much money you make from salvaging over time you spend on it, compare it to the amount of money you make per mission divided by how long an L3 usually takes you. Both those quantities are going to vary a lot form person to person.

I will tell you that most people don't find it worth it, but that's not necessarily a rule so much as people not wanting to spend the effort.

▲▲▲ pretty much this

Not really worth it, but if you enjoy it, go for it.

I did, but now honestly I wouldn't bother unless you are making rigs.

Like levels 1 and 2, the only reason to run level 3's is to access the next level of missions. Level 4 is where missions actually begin to pay enough to justify the time they take. You are usually better off running another short mission in the time it takes to salvage a level 3. And only run enough level 3's to open level 4's.

YMMV, but I would do the same grind thru level 3 to hit level 4's before I bothered to salvage.

Mission, skills and luck combined are how it balances out.

Some missions go faster than others and you don't know what the next mission will be until you get it and accept it.

Skill at running them, including SP, means how fast you can crank through them. Slow at running missions? Salvaging gains in value.

With a good deal of luck on salvaging, you can make a good deal of isk. With poor luck, you get really clunky salvage. Also different missions have different quantities of salvageable wrecks and this can make a difference on ones decision too.

If it's Guristas don't bother, if it's serpentis, sansha, angel or especially EOM then salvage.

Save salvage then every month make a trip to local trade hub and cash them in, it adds up, slow down a little sounds like your trying to hard to make isk'es and banging your head isk will come faster as your skills and experience grow.

I will second this post. The general rule of thumb is;
Good loot = poor salvage
Good salvage = poor loot

get t2 salvagers, fit a cloak, go to fountain and look for t2 and t3 player salvage. That's where the real money is.

You'll need the MWD for running through gatecamps and bubbles.

If you have new players in your corp, who aren't yet isk-rich, let them fleet up with you and clean up after you once you've cleared each room. Split the estimated isk value of the loot and salvage they pick up 50/50.

You get a bump to your income for no effort, and its a big boost for new players if they are willing to take the time to sell all the loot and salvage for maximum value.

(rolls dice)

Large Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I = 700,000 ISK (Jita) to 2,000,000ISK (Rens)
Large Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I BPO = 1,250,000 ISK

So... buy the BPO, build 1 or 2 rigs and not only has the BPO paid for itself but you're already making a tidy profit. Same holds true for almost every other rig out there, too.

At the end of the day, my Noctis makes me more ISK than my Rattlesnake.
