Road Trip -- Going to Curse

Hi Guys,

This is my second attempt to post this query.

I'm a new citizen, 27 days old, and really inexperienced playing mm games. Eve is my first and I'm having a blast.

I've spent a lot of time reading and thinking about what I want to do in Eve, now that I've "graduated" from the tutorials, and am working on the Sisters of Eve arc. And before I settle down to a serious career, like exploration, I've decided like many recent graduates, to go on a Road Trip!

I was studying the star map one night and saw the name Curse, and that did it. I knew what I wanted to do -- go to Curse.
The Long Way.

I plan to go system to system, no autopiloting, striking up conversations in the local chat along the lines of "what lies ahead", picking up work (mission running, ratting, mining, etc.) as I go along. No two days alike, nothing rote, every day new and different, and exciting.

Now, I know this will be hard, given my inexperience. I know I will be scammed, suicide ganked, threatened, bullied, and just generally pushed around. I know I will die, alot. I plan on it. I plan to leave corpses from here to Curse. They'll probably become cheap souvenirs they'll be so many of them. Because given my inexperience practically everybody can outgun me.

But I want to do it.

I can try to outwit, sneak by. and team up to make it. And I think it will be fun.

But I have two questions:

1. Is this even possible? Or am I so new, I just don't know it isn't.

2. I'm currently flying Tristans, Catalysts, and Tormentors. Any better ideas?

Thanks in advance guys, this forum has been a valuable source of information, and laughs. And just for the record, to rebut something I read in rookie chat, this cute toon is neither balding, fat, middle aged, nor male. Kisses, ya'all.

Entering low sec and null sec is a dangerous venture. Simply waltzing about tossing flowers through the air in your young idealized freedom march of 1968 long haired hippy style will end only one way. You will be met at a gate, tackled, and most likely podded for good measure.

I do like that you you want to venture out and encourage you to do so. BUT! Find some buds to go with. If anything else, you'll have company as you all die horrible deaths.

Also, for the beginner. I'd say that a Stealth Bomber is the best ticket for you to get into if you so desire to fly around null npc space solo to go look and see. SBs are hard to catch when flown and fit correctly.

If you want to see a real mess, just head towards fountain. I can assure you that no matter which way you go down there you find a quick demise.

If you want to have some fun though, fit a cyno gen on your ship and if you get tackled just activate it. You'll die regardless, but the other fleet will likely panic and scatter to the 4 corners as they will think you are a cyno alt about to drop 100 carriers and dreads on them.

Yes, this is very doable. It just may hurt a bit without proper skills and understanding what it is that exists out in lowsec / nullsec.

The idea of Touring New Eden is actually the core idea behind, and the name of, my corp (well, not mine personally but the one I'm a part of). You may want to drop by our public channel TOURING and have a talk to our CEO.

I invite you to take a look at the recruitment thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=243143
Even if you aren't interested in joining, we could still probably help you out in how to get around New Eden's darker allies while still holding on to your ship.

Also, you can look me up later, or send an Evemail and I can get back to you.

I think your idea is a good one. You could have a great time.

One some issue however.... At some point you will get prodded. This isn't a disaster, but it does mean that you will get a free ticket back to your starting system. This isn't a problem unless you anticipated dieing and resuming your journey from where you met your demise.

27 days, I think you only need to start upgrading clones at 800k SP? It's been a long time but if so you don't really have anything to lose apart from a bit of isk (and any implants and hardwires)

Ships: stealth bomber would be my choice, navy torps in case you catch a hauler on the way or someone stuck in a bubble.

But like Kyseth said, you will probably lose some stuff along the way.

Be wary :)

Curse mmm, home of the Angels :) ?
Before you leave High Sec. try playing with F10 = Map. Learn it, study it, make important note of the statistics it provides. If you're desperate to go it alone, i'd suggest avoiding Doril, go North then south into Curse by Great Wildlands.

You want a frigate with a cloak. a Stealth bomber in particular.
You NEED to learn how to make safes, tacticals, insta-undocks and use D-Scan from Celestials near to each gate you intend to jump through.

Study the map and statistics for the regions/constellations you plan to fly through over time. Spend some time playing with dotlan, keeping an eye for when choke systems are busy (read: when gate camps are frequent.)
Be willing to play the clock and Intl. time zone game.

If you make it into Sound & docked at a station, get in touch :)

Not only is it doable it'll be a blast and your current ships are just fine for doing it. Here's something to check out while you are there:

Most likely you will die often. Curse can be a fun place to be but it is definitely a hostile environment for a solo player. There are bubble camps on most of the gates there. Little traps to catch people who travel gate to gate. There are lots of small gang pvpers looking for easy kills. The region is null sec so there is no need to "suicide gank you they are free to kill you at will and will try to do so.

Picking up intel by asking in local isnt likely to be useful to you. Folks will lie to you to score an easy kill on the other side of a gate. Your best bet would be to find your way into a corp that lives there.

Money making is possible. Curse has angel missions and angel LP can be spent on dramiel and cynabol blue prints which sell fairly well in high sec or even in curse for that matter.

Welcome to Eve!

+1 for getting off to a great start.

You will die, but you will make it if you learn from each death.

May your trip be filled with excitement Big smile

Thanks everybody for the replies.

I lost the first ship (and got podded, to boot) I took into lowsec, so nothing new there.

But I think it will be fun.

And I expect everyone to lie to me.

But this is the time to do" young and dumb" in this game.

Thanks again.

Some people are saying that a Stealth Bomber is the best choice for null sec solo travelling and i respect that but i don't share it.
I've said this before and i don't like to repeat myself but here it goes: a dictor will bubble you and an interceptor will decloak you.

The best option for the OP is to fly a fast frigate with MWD in case that he needs to make an epic reapproach to the gate. What do you fly? Gallente? Try the Atron but the Incursus is a good choice too.

Don't warp from gate to gate, use your dscan and your star map to look for new routes if a gang of bad guys in Vagabonds and Rapiers is blocking your path. You also can use the star map for system info: ships/pods killed in the last hours... etc.

When you get killed, open a convo with your killers and i'm sure they will give you some tips and probably you will make friends.

I wish you luck in your future Road Trips.

If I see you out in Curse - my corp hangs out there quite a bit and I will hopefully soon be joining them in their- I'll do my best to to see to it that you aren't harmed. At least not by us. Blink

How will an interceptor decloak you when wthey cant see you. Even if they do they have maybe a second to lock you beofre you can cloak again, unless you are incredibly unlucky...Your idea will just involve getting blown up... Have you ever actually got caught it a bubble? or been on a gate fight...Flying a fast frig and burning back is noway near as effective as Just warping off.....

That's the name I was trying to remember. If you can find any of this guys blogs, or entries here, they are a great read. INNOMINATE did a similar thing a few years ago. But he was also gifted with a high level of penmanship skill, so his exploits made for great reading.

He sort of fizzled out in the end, and many folks accused him of trying to set up a very convoluted scam. But you know what, it didn't matter at all if that was the case, because he wrote a damned good story, which is still worth while reading

You will apprear on the overview for a second before cloaking an the interceptor will approach to you, simple as that. I'm not talking about drag bubbles. How can you warp off when you are inside of a bubble? Please think before posting.

Let's say you jump thru a gate. Then the grid loads and in your overview you see a few ships. The dictor bubbles you but it doesn't matter because Icarus Able has the first interdictor nullfied bomber in history and he warps off like a boss.

Here's a lil help with moving through null with bubbles...also shows what an interceptor pilot thinks about a stealth bomber camp and how a cloaky is decloaked and killed.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the info. I made my first attempt to reach Curse August 3rd, and I made it! According to my star map, I traveled 43 gates in nullsec, 13 of which were in Curse. ( I manually piloted all the way to Curse, auto piloting doesn't come till later.)

I was bubbled twice, attacked by drones, fired on by 3 humans, and chased by 3 other pilots through a number of systems. I also ran into 2 systems that were full of pilots, but no one accosted me there. No one talked to me there either.

I had expected to be podded early on, so following that old eve adage, don't fly what you can't afford to lose, I took my Atron. Well, had I known I would actually get to Curse on my first try, I would have prepared better. I had no cloak, no way to hide. So, I got on my corp channel and consulted with my corpies about what I should do to get back.

You see I couldn't find anybody in Curse to kill me, every system I traveled to was empty. And I loitered. And as it was almost lunch time, I didn't want to pilot back to home. Numerous suggestions were made among which was self-destruction and auto-piloting back. Well we voted and auto-piloting back won. I've since counted and I had to travel through 15 gates in null sec, most of which were in Curse, on auto-pilot to get back to losec.

So we place bets as to how many jumps it would be before I would be shot down, and I hit auto-pilot. Five, seven, and ten were favored estimates. I picked seven.

And we watched. And watched. And watched.

And no one ever even shot at me. I made it all the way home on auto-pilot. Sort of anti-climatic, in comparison to the trip out.

But it was fun!

Thanks again.

Good stuff, thanks for sharing, being a more attractive target will get you the excitement you seek. Train up an enyo or a thorax now and see if you can do it in that. Pick off a straggler and get yourself a killTwisted
