Well, this is my main and she's from 2009. I PVP a lot, and yes, it's unfair. EVE is a big, dark, uncaring galaxy, that's kind of THE POINT.

EVE is not like other MMOs. EVE is all about risk, you want to be able to safely PVP in three billion isk implant sets without actually risking a thing.

You cannot call this testing out a build in a real PVP setting, because it isn't one. Fair fights only happen in this game if one side has messed up, badly.


Hell, half of the rest of this is just describing FW complexes, go run those, if you can get over your crippling fear of actually playing the game.

How would it be a benefit? Some people will never fire a shot in anger, others will move to nullsec on day one and never stop PVPing. We already have things like RvB and faction warfare for people who don't like nullsec PVP, it could be argued that those, or just starting out in frigates and seeing how you do, already offer a gradual introduction to PVP.

Controlled PVP experience, arenas, WTF? Maybe they should also give you aggro immunity checkbox?

Wanna control the fight be prepared / be better / be in bigger fleet / avoid fight you don't want to be part of. Basically L2P.

Yes you can pod kill in FW missions. Though it's pretty hard to lose a pod in lowsec because they enter warp so fast.

I really don't care if arenas are added. I don't think very many people would use them. If you started having fights without the circumstances surrounding the fights as they are today you'd quickly get bored or lose lots of isk or both.

A fight in EVE is not only about the fight. It's about the circumstances surrounding the fight. A fight is often (though not always) decided before the first autocannon round has left the barrel. Was it a 1 vs 1? How did you make sure it was a 1 vs 1? If you thought you were going to win, how did you convince your target to engage (also: convince him that he would win or at least had a chance).

Throwing two same-class random ships against each other takes away all of the interesting aspects of EVE combat and will usually end up n the total domination of one of the two ships.

So I'm not against the idea, but I don't think it will add anything useful.

It's not exactly a sanctioned use of the test server, but you can "test out" how to PVP on Singularity. Everything is seeded for 100 isk. Just make sure you read the rules first, report any bugs you find and participate constructively in mass testing as a "thank you" for CCP providing us with access to Singularity in the first place.

If that's not something you're willing to do, there are always some sort of player-run PVP events going on. DJ Auger runs the Eve Radio Free-For-All Cup Series; low-skillpoint, low-budget entry-level ships are all you need and battles are weekly. The Syndicate Competitive League is also a thing.

Arenas are just a bad idea and they don't fit into EVE. People are defending what EVE is because we like what EVE is. EVE being what EVE is ... is why we're here in the first place.

Also.. if you lose your pod in a highsec duel, you made a huge mistake somewhere. Podsaving is ridiculously easy in highsec if you're paying attention.

A.) Check out Sisi... There are PvP systems on Sisi(6-CZ49) where you can find "arena" PvP. And guess what, everything on the test server is very, very cheap (100 isk), so you also don't have to worry about ship losses or any of EvE's harshness!

--- But it IS a sanctioned use of the Test Server. They have a PvP system setup for dueling, along with beacons that state BS PvP or .... CCP also sets up the test servers for AT teams to practice on, in "arena" style.

How is this good for PvP??? (people fear it will interfere or obsolete everyday PvP!)

Is instanced arena's the only real solution to whatever problem it is correcting??
Does it have a time limit? boundaries? rules?
How do you deal with fleet boosters & bonuses?
How do you enforce fitting limitations (number of asb's, faction/officer mods)?
Arena PvP is EXTREMELY BIASED, so what is the point of it?????????????
