Thinking you will win with no experience just cause you fly a BC...big NO.

Start with frigates and learn from the bottom up.

I think this was the advice I needed to see. I rushed to get in the biggest ships I could afford because big ships are better right? This one of the side effects of the "level to cap" mentality ill need to address. I was looking at ships as the games "leveling" system as it was. Which I suppose they are in a way, but. Not the way I was thinking.

So I'm working on fitting out my Tristan and ratting and mission running. Learning to better control my drones and trying to build up a good base of skill sets. Start small and work up like so many have said. Good common sense advice but that's not my strength. ;)

And I wish I Could take back my first post on the EvE forums which was pretty much just a whiney, QQ post in hindsight. But at the very least it showed me that these forums are populated with well spoken folks that help out a dirty dirty nub without making him feel stupid. Hats off to you.

Exactly.

bigger isn't always better.

Every ship in EVE has it's counter. A battleship can be killed by a couple frigates, if they know what they are doing. Even capital ships can be destroyed by stuff much smaller then themself. EVE isn't about "level cap" grinding or max out gear, it's more about knowledge and experience.

Steps for Tristan PewPew Fun:

1. Find a corp that will help you determine skills/fittings you need and is willing to bring you along to pew pew.
2. Train fitting skills and prereqs so you can fit the following items (not all at the same time):

Hobgoblin 2s
Warrior 2s
Damage Control 2
T2 small Blasters
200mm/400mm plates
Micro Warp Drive
Web
Scram
Adaptive Nano Plating2

3. While training for the above items fit out 6-12 uber cheap tristans (mwd+web+scram+T2 drones, low meta blasters, etc.) and go be tackle monkey for your new friends that you made in step 1.
4. Enjoy watching internet spaceships blow up (sometimes yours, sometimes the enemy) and have a blast!

(RvB, Faction Warfare, and Eve Uni would be the 3 places I would look if I was in your shoes).

Quite sure he is a troll.

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.

^^^this^^^ I once let a thorax die to a tristan. Embarrassing, I know but it wasn't just a tristan. The little bast@rd was outside my point range and teasing me with his amazing drone skills. I was determined to catch him though. That was my mistake. He let me catch him, pointed me, then 2 canes landed and melted me. Have fun with that.

1. Who the **** am I supposed to kill? I don't want to be some random dip trying to find new players or defenseless players. I want to have some kind of story driven foe. Does such a thing exist?

2. How do I learn anything when the fights last such a brief time? I didn't even know where to begin in examining the reasons I got annihilated so brutally.

Cheers

1. If you want story tied to your pvp, you may want to look at Faction War. Understand that involvement within FW will have severe repercussions on your standings with opposing NPC factions. These standings hits will haunt you for a long time, limiting some of the regions you may want to fly within later in your career, even if short term you could care less.

You might equally want to keep in mind that rarely is pvp in Eve, .... 'Sport' or something conducted with any concept of 'fair play' and equal footing involved or expected. Unless you enjoy the 'sporting' nature'of fox hunts & murder (be it an act of passion or premeditated with a group of co-conspirators). At which point, welcome to New Eden! Big smile ... Generally ship combat is fast. The space between survival / death generally measured in seconds. If it goes on for a minute or two+, all participants have made some kind of horrible/embarrassing error.

2. Black boxing can help - record your play & fights with something like FRAPs. Just get more action with ships you can afford to lose. Bring friends to your fights and only engage when you have more pilots on your side of the engagement ;) ... Some people above have likewise mentioned the Kil2 videos. Good stuff there too. In general, just keep at it. Fly what you can afford to lose. Eventually the seconds slow down as you get used to it.

Good hunting

That's not _entirely_ true. Red vs Blue is essentially a sports league within the game, and there are "arenas" restricted by ship type in the form of FW complexes, which won't necessarily be fair in numbers but prevent someone from dropping a carrier on your gang roam and so on.

So there are exceptions.
