Black screen after startup

Client and patching etc. works fine, but when starting the client itself, the screen goes black, Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+Tab don't respond at all. I hear the audio in the background, and managed to even log into my character (i heard the station sounds), but the screen is tottaly black, not even a cursor is visible.
The only way to quit the game or anything is to shut down the entire game.

Any ideas?

Hey Mal, I am also having a similar but not quite the same issue.

Mine happens whenever I quit the game, screen blacks out, all the same shortcuts you mentioned do nothing also. I am running windows 8 if that means anything, and the only fix I currently have in place is sleep the machine manually. Upon wakeup the monitor turns back on and I relog as usual without receiving any 'computer was turned off improperly messages' or anything like that. Although I would like to skip the step altogether.

I also get a black screen when I alt+tab while playing, it is annoying, if anyone has a fix I'd like to hear it too.

.... i had this black screen too...
try first the repair.exe tool of eve online, let him do his job...
i answered here how to solve another pb... but i think the native client is corrupted or somehting strange...

Well that didn't go so well. I could play before, but now after using the repair and launchin from bin i am having the same issue as Mal. I can hear everything but have nothing on the screen. Infact the only message i get is that the screen goes into power saving mode, why? This really sucks, i can't figure out anyway to get this working. Someone please help.
