So just trying to make a decision regarding a mission ship.

As a sixth month old pilot (11 million SP or so), with 3 million in drones (interfacing to 5, sentries to 4), 1.3 million in missiles (Cruises to 4) would it be better to stick to my raven for level 4s or to purchase a rattler? Shield and support skills are quite strong, and I've almost got battleship skills for the rattler both to 4 as well. Shield and support skills are also trained up considerably.

I.e. Raven, no T2 launchers or Rattler, no T2 sentries?

My thoughts are to get the rattler so I can overtank it and just learn the L4 missions easily, even if it is slower... but I don't know if half a bill is worth the money sink.

Thanks in advance

I run lvl 4s quite happily if a bit slowly in a Raven with T1 Cruise launchers (Cruise at IV) and good shield support skills. I don't have sentries but use 5 Hob IIs and 5 Hammerhead IIs to dispatch all the web frigs. I think the big thing for you is to try the lvl 4s in your Raven to get a feel for them. A Rattler would be a big loss for your first few runs at lvl 4s, there are a few missions (depending on what space your in) that are really tough and will require you to warp out until you work out how to run them properly.

The problem with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and putting things in it.

The real question is how do you want to mission? Are completion times a concern? Are you looking for max isk/hr or something to burn time while you read a book?

If you set on a Caldari ship and are looking for more isk/hr than you raven is giving you then look at the Navy raven. More dps and a bit more tank than the stock raven and cheaper than the Rattler. This of course assumes you will be at the keyboard while you mission.

The rattler excels at the ability to mission while you read a book or watch a movie, or dare I say it you are at work. Aggro the room, drop drones...go do whatever. No level 4 can break a properly fitted Rattler's tank. Come back in a bit to salvage/loot if that's your thing and turn in. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Both great ships that excel at very different mission styles. Which has more appeal to you only you can answer.

best of luck

If you've got the money for it a properly fitted passive Rattlesnake will let you do L4 missions with no danger at all. It's good if you're distracted a lot, or if you're learning and worried about handling several things at once. If you screw up you lose your drones, which is a whole lot cheaper than losing a ship.

It'll be slow though, so once you're feeling more confident you can move back to your Raven and then a CNR, fit for DPS over tank with plenty of ballistic control units, rigor rigs, an X-large booster and a cap booster. Then you can get the missions done a lot faster and you'll still have a Rattler sitting in your hangar if you lose your ship or get a mission you're still not confident with in your Raven.

A Rattler is a drone boat. If you can't use T2 drones, don't use a Rattlesnake.

If you make a big mistake in a Raven, you're out about 50mil.
If you make a big mistake in a Rattler, you're out about 600mil.

If you don't know which ship you should fly, you should be flying the Raven.

I would say to start with the rattler if your passive shield skills are gold.

It's a good training ship if your iffy on trigers and just learning level 4's.

Also with drone bounes pluse hard passive tank you can get out any trouble if your at your desk. Becouse the only way to loss a ship in a level 4 is to be warp scrabled by a npc frig and with tech 2 lights pluse drone bounes your going to be making fast work of frigs for a get away if you need one witch you should not.

Latter on when your hiting max skills shield/core/drone/missilles. You can in fact set up the Rattler in a active shield tank dps role with the right missile rigs and hardwiring using tech 2 torps you can realy put out high dps. It's not going to be so high as high end gunnery ships but it will compet with missiles and drone ships easly.

Is it a rock point a lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship point a lazer at it and profit. I dont see any problems here.
