Figuring out Tech 1 and 2 cruiser tactics and set-ups?

Hello gentlemen. I have a problem (ha ha ha) and I'd like you to help in figuring it out.

I'm having issues (ha ha ha) finding a tech 1 and tech 2 cruiser capable of engaging a battle-cruiser or 2 - 3 tech 1 or tech 2 cruisers straight up close range.

Now. I've been using the Deimos with success and I've already been looking at the Sacrilege. But what other tech 1 cruiser or cruisers are capable of engaging a battle-cruiser close range successfully? What tactics would be employed when using said tech 1 cruiser or cruisers?

T1 cruisers that can engage Battlecruisers in brawl ranges? Not many. Perhaps a Thorax with a dual prop, scram, and TD or MWD/scram/web/TD. The same story goes for the Vexor, and maybe the Rupture, as it can also wield a medium neut. The Deimos and Sacrilage, as you know, are both very strong in what you are trying to do. I would also suggest trying an Ishtar, as it can tackle Drakes fairly easily and the high kinetic resist really plays in your favour. Other than that, just experiment and see what works best for your play styles.

The new Maller is pretty beastly. Alternatively you can't go wrong with a thorax. Well I suppose you could go wrong if you tried fitting a mix of small railguns and salvagers to it but i'm assuming for the moment you aren't a total windowlicker.

Vagabonds are good if you are decent at kiting, you can take multiple T1 cruisers and BCs as long as there arent too many ships with good projection around, also, Tier 3s are horrible to deal with in pretty much any HAC unless you land on them.

I was looking for a close range cruiser not nano.

Right now I'm looking at the Sacrilege. Which seems like the best choice on the tech 2 close range cruiser front.

The Arbitrator is also an option but I'm not feeling it to much. Moa with an XL ASB is a strong contender but it's to one dimensional (Frigates will lame me). Other than that a 1600mm plate Vexor with an medium AAR is also an option. Someone brought up the Maller to me in-game and I agree about its tank but has the same issues as Moa but a more reliable tank.
