Ask yourself this. "Why would they want competition ?"
I've done some really stupid shit in this game.

No swarm but the locals all log in about 10-5 minutes before the repop and wait with their mining fleets.

If anything ice mining is dropping off. One system I go to the site lasts like 4+ hours some days. Its great, because I can pull like 300 block with one Mack in that time and just mine ore in the gap (before it would have taken the whole day to get that much) .

if anything i've noticed most of the larger multiboxers give up, i was flying around a few ice belts yesterday and there were no more than what seemed to be 5 accounts being used by one player. also in a 2 belt system that's 2 jumps from a 3 belt system (that's some prime real estate for ice mining, let's be honest) both belts were up, i didn't expect that.

it seems the new ice changes have kinda killed off the larger scale multiboxing. then again, i did say before the patch it's not in a miner's best interests to cycle ice sites 5x per day which is exactly what the multiboxers are doing...

I'm not sure how to interpret your statements so that your post is internally consistent: are the miners strip-mining the belts, or not touching them?

What I do know is that the price of ice has plummeted since the patch came out, so there's one explanation for the hisec miners giving up.

neither, they're just mining them like normal. there are no massive groups of multiboxers (that i saw) any more, but there are people mining ice. sure there are still multiboxers stripping the ice anoms, but from what i saw it's one guy with 2-3 mining ships and 1 orca vs what we used to see with an orca, a freighter, and 10+ miners.

i wouldn't say high sec miners are "giving up" high sec miners will still mine ice because it's relatively good isk/hour for minimal training. (i'd gladly train ice harvesting V before even looking at crystals for t2 strip miners, for example) but it's no longer the massive, effortless, isk printing machine it used to be for multiboxers with more accounts than they have fingers, and they are the ones who seem to be giving up.

Yes, I too have seen a drop in activity in the ICE belts. I expect it will level off with ICE mining being about the same isk/hr it was before. Being that ICE will be worth half as much as it was before, but you can mine twice as much per minute.

The way I see it is, just about everyone horded ICE like it was going to become super rare. I mean everyone. If ICE mining was stopped completely tomorrow there is probaly enough stock piled to meat demand for at least 6 months. We have a massive stock pile of ICE so big that current supply means nothing. It will take months before those stock piles deplete to a point where new supply will actually affect the prices. Personally I dumped 80% of my stock just before the expansion when prices were pushed up by those trying to top off their stock piles. It seems like I made the right move.

The question now is how long will those stock piles last? How long until the supply from those stock piles drops off and the new depleting belts become the primary source for ICE. Will the miners left mining ICE at that point be able to keep up with demand? The big question, If I sold high when do I buy low. What will that low point be? And how quickly will it rise once the stock piles dry up.

... salutes the "locust plagues" by knocking back another mojito and continues to scoop cheap ice as post-patch dumping softens the prices...
