Im going to add a couple -a lot mentioned ive watched except the Anime/Manga/Foreign mentions which is a shock to me - and a couple of them ive seen even. Have a few nicely on the list to investigate too so thanks.

2 more ill never turn over from but always turn over to.

Logans Run.
Close Encounters.

To the guy mentioning Skyline - i kind of agree, and again one of the few that would, but with MASSIVE proviso.
When you get the tipped hat to the 'Rapture' for the main characters scene - TURN IT OFF, never watch further because it is a lesson in how to kill a movie stone dead in 3 minutes.

Im going to add
Contact.

There i did it. Fly away little Starling.

I love Science, it gives me a Hadron.

forgot logans run, classic.

just watched john carter, surprised a little, had a bit of a star wars feel to it. not bad at all.

but after reading through all the posts.

blade runner, 2001 and 2010 and forbidden planet are right there at the top for me.

but, blade runner is and always will be the best scifi movie ever to date, it's timeless, the music is out of this world.
the acting is amazing, all around great scifi.

Julia Dietze? Her jugs are actually pretty small.

Here's a bikini pic of her: http://www.clattoverata.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/julia-dietze-bikini2.jpg

She is definitely uber-hot though.

This thread is great! A treasure trove of good movies I've never seen! Cool!

One thing, however - starship troopers...I almost cried when I saw that...not from any emotions the film caused, but from the obscene evidence of crimes committed by the film writers. They butchered one of the best books (insert kanye west voice) of all time. In my dream world Joss Whedon would make a "real" Starship Troopers movie that would do the book proper justice right before he made the sequel to Serenity (hey, a guy can dream :D )

The preacher? Yah I would have liked to know more about his past. I liked Jayne Cobb... except for that time he tried to turn over River to the alliance. That was not so cool.

Looking forward to Prometheus 2.

Blade Runner (awesome soundtrack too)

Hate the latest Scientology-inspired Tom Cruise scifi movies.

Wash, although the preacher had much more story in him too.

Also, Prometheus 2 is a thing?

Must be a lot of Germans piping in for Cargo to have been mentioned so many times.

I watched it a year or so myself - really enjoyed it. I studied German for two years and like to watch German films regardless, but I find the dearth of German language sci-fi disappointing.

You do know that the term 'German' can be used to describe things that are... German, that are outside the confines of the BRD, right?

What language do Deutschschweizer and Osterreicher speak? Swiss, Austrian?

jason hill mentioned Iron Sky - I can only recommend it for a completely ridiculous take on 'nazi's on the moon'. Your mileage may vary though.

One movie i did not see mentioned yet is One Point O - A little gem my GF introduced me to. It's pretty damn good and keeps you guessing all the way through. It also has Lance Henriksen in it so tbh it's a must see :>

Also, thanks to everyone who posted in this thread. It seems i've missed out on a lot of movies... Time to catch up :)

Prometheus blew.

I bet carebears only like Prometheus because they are bad that way.

I awaited Prometheus with pretty high expectations. Even joined a dedicated Prometheus discussion forum a few months before it was released. People there would theorize, speculate on bits of footage from the trailers, post fake scripts, etc.

I can't recall ever being hyped for a movie as Prometheus, as two of my favorites of all-time were Ridley Scott's Alien and Blade Runner. That being said, when I finally saw it, I thought it was mediocre. It was an OK film, but not great. I hope the planned sequel addresses many of the things that I thought Prometheus failed to.
