So do fights ever break out at fanfest?
I mean EVE is unique in the sense that it truly brings out the worst in people.
EVE is the epitome of every keyboard warrior, trash talker, wanna be tuff guy you could possibly hope to find on the internet.
So how do people not break out into a all out brawl at fanfest?

Because people don't want to get Concord'ed. Yep, they're everywhere.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

I'd imagine that most people would think that it's just a game, Personally if someone got into a fight because of a t'interweb game they need help of the medicinal kind.

Saying that there a couple of people I would quite happily stuff head first down Geyser but thats to do with the fact they are "french male chickens" than the game.

Worst case a night in jail (if you get caught)
Seems like a fair deal to me.

Do people just not reveal who they are in game?
EVE is full of assholes I just don't see thousands of EVE players being in one play irl at one time without a fist being thrown.

Well yes it is a game how ever. There are some people that like to make real life threats or statements from behind the safety of their keyboards.
I am not talking about punching someone in the throat because they blew up your ship, That is just something that is going to happen.
I am talking about the trash talkers the people who's over all personality (At least online would be someone who would seem highly likely to get hit)

People will act a lot differently in real life then they do in game.
Just because someone "hate" each other and do their best to blow up each others ship while playing EVE they can (and most likely will) sit and laugh about it and talk about fights they both attended, with some friendly banter of course.

And also keep in mind that most EVE players are more mature, and realize that it IS just a game and will be respectful in real life even if they smack talk, troll, scam, blow you up, rob you in game Smile

Pretty sure what normally happens when two EVE enemies meet in real life is they instantly feel a mutual sense of pity and understanding, followed by a hug, when their neckbeards fuse together into one all is forgotten

I usually find people who talk big on the internet are complete pussies in real life it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.

Two things.

1. in game <> out of game
I can be a total ******* in any given game, in real life I'm a rather nice guy, you really have to make an effort to get a reaction out of me. I know what is the difference between real and not real (despite all the 'eve is real' stuff ;)). The same is most likely true for most people.

2. Iceland is far away
There is a barrier of entry to getting to the fanfest, of the monetary kind. That leaves the lowest social class where most of the undesirable behaviour arises from out of the race.

The combined effect of one and two filter out the rabble.

Hmmm... The above maybe sounds a bit elitists, that was not the intention, just an observation from my possibly limited point of view.

Sable's Ammo Shop at Alentene V - Moon 4 - Duvolle Labs Factory. Hybrid charges, Projectile ammo, Missiles, Drones, Ships, Need'em? We have'em, at affordable prices. Pop in at our Ammo Shop in sunny Alentene.

Probably because Fanfest is made up of spaceship nerds who maybe be famous for many things, but fighting is not one of them :)

Because the sort of person willing to spend thousands of dollars to go to a foreign country & spend a week or more having a good time with friends isn't the sort of person stupid enough to get themselves locked up in a foreign jail, charged & deported over a computer game.

Are you implying you want to fight CCP? I'm pretty sure they're all packing pepper spray and a whistle anyway.

Only fighting allowed at fanfest is chess boxing.

I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

Considering all of the people who go there have spent a lot of money on 'going there', fighting in RL over just a game is rather silly for pretty much all of them.

That said, I did hear some rumours about some people going to war with some other people over what this guy did to that guy's girlfriend who also attended fanfest...

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?

I have been to 3 fan meets now in the UK and only had fun, yes there's been some interesting exchanging of views but they have all been light hearted mickey taking which inevitably ends up with one of us getting the beers in Big smile

If you ever attend one of these you'll also notice that not everyone there is a geeky bearded cellar dweller, in fact you might be shocked at the age range that turns up, I know I was when I went along the first time and saw that I was far from the oldest there.

So to answer your question, I think it's because everyone that turns up does so because of a love of the game, and they have an ability to keep it seperated from real life, those that can't probably don't attend.

Solecist Project...." They refuse to play by the rules and laws of the game and use it as excuse ..." " They don't care about how you play as long as they get to play how they want."

Welcome to EVE.
