Running around with the safety off is why CONCORD won't let you have nice things.

You could put your eye out kid.

One of my all time favorite thing was finding carebears in BS's using smartbombs in missions. Scan them down, warp in with a noobship and fly right into their smartbomb. Insta-Concordokken! Hilarious! Sure, I may have lost a pod now and then but they never had implants and were cheap enough clones to replace.

BTW this is fail wetty dream, rest skip this post and continue reading the thread.

Well someone did threaten to turn me into a grease spot if I continued to salvage his wrecks.. and idgaf was his response about concord.

The fact that is ejects the loot into a still claimed container works that problem out though... Somewhat.

It's possible that they could turn you into that grease spot. But then CONCORD would smash them for shooting someone they had no right to shoot, and you could loot their wreck.

An abandoned wreck is exactly that, a free for all.
The loot is everybodys so you have no right to destroy it, its not really a bug and makes perfect sense.

Lets put it into perspective,

You have a big box of Apples and decide to share some with your neihbours so you place them in a box outside your house with a sign "Free Apples, help yourself"

People walk past and take 1 or 2 Apples each and then you notice some kid walk by, knock the box on the floor and stamp on them!!!

How would you react, not at all or chase after the kid and call him an ass wishing you could slap him without being arrested?

Concord is giving you the slap..

I'm not so sure it makes much sense.

Hold right there, that's not what happens when you abandon a wreck. What happens is that the first interested person coming along takes all the apples, and then uses his pocket knife to salvage a few pieces of cardboard from the box.

You might not like it and it might not be what you intended to happen but there's no reason why the cops would be after him, except for littering maybe, but ingame destroying the wreck is more like the opposite of littering.

So when I actually think your analogy through, I'm coming to the conclusion that it doesn't make any sense at all. Also consider that it would be perfectly legal to take everything from the wreck and trash it immediately afterwards.

Just because they are blue doesn't mean you can shoot them, even accidently. Technically, the person who made the wreck still owns them, but just allowed you to salvage and loot it. Anyway, about your shortcut keys. You should try spacing them out, or moving them around so the weapons and non-weapons aren't next to each other. Will save you from accidently shooting another wreck in the future. Lol

They really need to make Smartbombs only do damage to valid targets. I mean Jesus Christ, they're called SMARTbombs. Bombs, okay, I can understand that being brutal damage, but they're only usable in nullsec anyway.

Here is the thing about safeties:

Green = Good Everywhere
Yellow = Can Flipper/Ninja Salvager/Lowsec Pirate
Red = Hisec Ganker = CONCORDOKEN

There is never any reason in all of New Eden to set your safety on Red unless you want CONCORD to blow up your ship. Sure you can set it to red while in nullsec or a wormhole. But there is no reason to do that since you can shoot stuff at will anyway. And you'll just forget to set it back while you go to Jita and bad things will happen.

So as you are setting the safety to red, ask yourself, "Am I a hisec ganker?" If you are not, settle down, and keep the safety on yellow or green.

In all seriousness, you were destroyed by CONCORD because you shot at something that didn't belong to you. The wreck belonged to someone else.

Had you looted from it, and it was not your property (yellow), rather than abandoned (white) or marked as yours (blue), then you would have been suspect flagged anyway.

Do the tutorials even explain that rather overcomplicated process anywhere?

I think there's a tutorial on safeties that explains:

Green=You can't become suspect or criminally flagged.
Yellow=You can become suspect
Red=Here Be Dragons

And that's really all you need to know. If you're curious about some action's legality, grab a noobship, set your safety green, try it. Set your safety yellow, try it. If you can't do it with either green or yellow safety, it's gonna get you CONCORDed.
