This is along the lines of something I have been suggesting for a long time now...

Allow exploration ships to actually... explore... new space. Perhaps in a small percent of the missions or whatever, new space is actually discovered. It doesn't even have to be a mission- we should be able to warp in any direction into the unknown and discover things. If nothing else, we would have some interesting bookmarks for safe spots.

Now, to make things more interesting, such space should be occupied with intelligent NPC's who need to be kicked out and replaced.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

What would be cool was if you could create JumpGates to WH systems.
If you own the gate you could put a password on it that only allowed your Corp/Alliance.

Everyone else would have to find your system via other WH's but you would have your own door.

Thoughts?

As long as the gates can be besieged with wardecs or hi-jacked with hacking, then yes it's a great idea.

About all the "alliances taking over" complaints. There is already conquerable space with nullsec so repeating that would be a waste. Just make the new space unconquerable. No local. No sovereignty. No stargates. Just a great big vast unknown. You plot your own paths to warp around this expanse, in order to get from one "system" to another. Using some new module or something. When you land there may be anomalies and signatures that require scanning. Maybe some standard warp-able objects on overview. But mostly searching for things. Never know if you're going to run into another group of players. Logistics issues come into play on long journeys through this unknown space. Strange anomalies can do strange things, like obscure your fleet from d-scan.
