since odyssey, i encounter a strange issue with eve.

each time i launch it, there is no sound.

i need to clear cache any single time to have it working.

this does not happen with SISI.

i tried reinstalling eve, with no success, i also reinstalled the SISI one, but it still works OK.

seriously, is there a single thing that wasn't broken within odyssey?

edit: forgot to give the bug report id: 162250

Got the same issue. The sound actually works every now and then but very often the client starts and has no sound at all, the game doesn't appear in windows sound mixer along with other apps. This did happen before Odyssey but nowhere near as often.

before odyssey, on my side it happened that it had now sound / sound dropped or started a buzzing infinit loop

but just unchecking /rechecking the "sound" in esc menu somehow restarted the audio engine or something, and fixed the issue.

now, you have to clear cache / restart client several time and hope for the sound to work :'(

I'm having the same issue. One win7 computer, one win8 computer, both with completely different configurations and software.

I've noticed that when it happens, EVE is no longer an entry in the windows volume mixer. I'm starting to think it has something to do with mumble, but of course, it has only happened since odyssey. Clearing all settings didn't fix it.

The win7 machine has an asus xonar DG and I've updated all drivers. I have mumble overlay on
The win8 machine is using onboard and there are no more recent drivers. Mumble overlay off.

i thought at first it had something to do with other audio process, but:

1- knowing the way audio layers works in windows, it doesn't make sense

2- even if i restart comp and launch only eve, issue happen too

3- issue sometime doesn't happen even if i have many other "audio" applications running (we browser plugin / TS3 / video / audio etc....)

i think (would need to confirm) that eve client just doesn't ask windows audio layer for a session opening, since in the event manager, no crash can be seen, and no session is opened at all when issue arise (hence why there is no eve related entry within audio mixer)

I've had it cut out on me mid-session as well. One time I noticed the cut is when I was using "look at" on a ship, and it docked. I heard an audio blip right as the camera switched back to me, and no more sound until the next cache reset.

Having the issue as well don't have mumble
And it started first to affect 1 client at a time & then the sound issues seem to remain with the client running that account but now it"s spread to any client opened

I too have this issue, very annoying. It appears to be completely random, I have 3 clients and they can have sound straight away, need a few starts or need so many I give up.

Having one working doesn't mean the next one will. I have this problem both using the launcher (seriously guys, that launcher!!) and going directly to ExeFile.

Once it's working it seems fine, getting it working is another matter. Cache clears SOMETIMES work, but not always. Restarts SOMETIMES work.

Within Windows (7 64 bit) mixer the options either start up as EVE - "character name" or sometimes just ExeFile, again no real consistency.

It's driving me crackers and has ONLY been doing this since Odyssey.

I am having the same issue, and using three clients with individual settings so I can't use that POS launcher.

1. Start up game, no audio (not in mixer either)

2. Close game

3. Start up game, audio sometimes. If not repeat step 2 lol.

This gets VERY annoying when you have to do this on three clients to get started.

Win 7

Fully update and repaired clients.

My audio went out after patch on the 13th, havent gotten it back yet. Strange thing, that same patch cleared out my cache, I had to reset everything.

Having same issue here and its getting very annoying.

Every 3rd time I start a client up I lose sound on just that client until I clear cache on that client, I can restart that specific client a dozen times and sound won't come back until I clear cache. I can start another subsequent client up (without resolving the problem client) and it will have sound fine until the 3rd time again at which point whatever client I then start is affected.

Definitely wasn't happening before odessey. Doesn't seem to matter which client it is I can open and close clients in random orders but every 3rd one it happens on.

I run my setup with one central eve install and then each seperate client has its own junction linked virtual folder with a unique name that points back to the main install - haven't tried entirely seperate installs to see if that changes anything.

(Also on a Windows 7 PC).

EDIT: As above I'm skipping the launcher as since odessey that breaks the settings on individual clients (or did last time I tried it).

Has a couple of instances where a looping sound has continued looping well after the event that triggered it has gone away and trying to clear it by toggling the ingame sound option off and back on again has resulted in the complete loss of sound on that client but so far just restarting the client doesn't seem to resolve it I have to clear cache before its fixed.

Happens for me too. I can be running 2-3 clients at once, and only 1 or 2 of them will have sound. Which one(s) have audio, if any, is random.

This is 2-3 clients on the same system using a single install directory.

Odds of having sound if I start from the launcher is higher than if i start from the .exe, but it's not guaranteed either way.

Just noticed/confirmed that sound will drop out mid-mission. It seemed like there was a chance of this occurring on every new sound queued to the hardware. In the particular mission I was just on, my sound cut out and back in 30-40 times in about 5 minutes.

Very frustrating, maybe they're overflowing something in the sound driver?

At the end of the mission I was without sound until the audio for the jumpgate to take me home played, then it was back. This time.

Audio: C-Media USB Headphones (Steelseries 5H)
Driver: Built-in Win8 driver: 6.2.9200.16384
OS: Win8 Pro

This behavior is definitely new with Odyssey, didn't have a single problem prior to Odyssey, nor do I have issues with other games.

I found something that works for me so I figured I would post it to see if anyone else has the same luck.

For sound not initializing at all at start:

1. Open the volume mixer before opening game

2. Launch from the eve (not the launcher)

3. Before the eve window shows up, click on the sound mixer and move it around

I am not sure why or how....but this has initialized the sound 100% of the time for all three of my clients

nope, still no change with this, and for obvious reasons: exefile process just doesn't ask audio layer for opening an audio channel when the issue happen (i.e. 60 to 70% of the time).

so definitely a CCP issue

Confirming I too, am having this problem. Multiple restarts of client required to get sound to initialize. Can't reliably reproduce.

It seemed to have been fixed for me for the last several patches since this thread went up, but I'm having the problem again since two days ago on both computers.
