Thanks for the heads up. Are we going to get something for this. Quite a few have reported lag/system entry, and other errors? Some have even reported that the server lag messed with their PVP.

We already got something for this. We got clear, timely information about the problem and we got status updates. We got the servers brought up again as soon as they could manage it, and we got all of this given to us by a CCP who was very sporting and good-natured about the whole thing.

If you feel like you are entitled to something more than that, please tell us what it is.
A more stable gaming environment, especially when there's a huge 1k+ fleet fight that just started.

I'm telling you CCP, give the devs hookers for each major update they make.

This will work, trust me... I know these things.

You've all seen the movie Swordfish right?

I'm telling you, it works. I get all sorts of things done better and faster than it would otherwise.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

you guys understand that DDoS or distributed denial of service attack...is actually a small virus on a client computer that starts pinging an ip right? so what next ccp, are you going to recommend that we all format our hardrives? or resolve the damn problem and patch all the holes. We keep having these downtimes, and I pay you guys pretty good money monthly to have the service up and running 24/7 ...i play eve, its all i do, several accounts a few 100's of dollars here and there. See now 50 thousand skill points for downtime is unacceptable...I just jumped into a star that was a disconnected cluster with lots of shinies, should I lose that will you reimburse me? or would you send me the "normal game mechanics" auto-mail? please get your act together. Its getting out of hand. Take control or stop tranquility until you have solved every issue there is and could ever be, like playstation did when they got hacked to ****. You have claimed3 times on the past three patches that you have fixed the black screen when undocking issue, as of right now that's not the case. It is still happening randomly mostly on gates now, so, once again get your act together people. Every minute I don't spend in eve am spending on the net with the possibility of finding another game that takes my interest. Attention

There was a message in the shutdown announcement saying something close to "See you again in 20 minutes". Why even put such a message in your shutdown announcement when you have no way to keep such a promise? I understand it takes time to address issues, but if you can't guarantee that the servers will be back up in 20 minutes, its best to never give that estimate in the first place.

How many times have you told someone you would be somewhere by a certain time, and failed?

How many times have you said "just a minute" and it took two.

Really, seriously, are you being a bit anal about how much time it took to fix the problem? I would prefer they get it right rather than strictly stick to a general comment meant to give a general idea of how long they thought it would take to bring the server back up.

Just calm down, Jesus, don't have a coronary over time. I am fairly certain that you must, like all people, fail to meet the general times you state when giving other people an idea of how long you will be. Chill out.

I think you read way to much into how "upset" I was about this downtime. I work for a software company in the real world, and it is bad business to make any kind of promise to customers that you can't keep, formal or informal. Your analogy about meeting a friend is irrelevant. This is business, with real money involved. My entire point was simply that if you can't keep a promise when it involves business, don't make a promise when it involves business. Why is that too much to ask for?

I was a WAN manager for many years...

If you work for a software company, and you have ever given anyone a time where you would have something completed, then you have been in the same situation and I say SHAME on you.

The only way you have not experienced this is if you way under promise, by days. And in those cases it's not even worth giving any estimate.

I worked for a retailer and was responsible for 167 remote locations, retail locations, all the computer systems, POS (Register Systems) that were directly linked and obtained their pricing information from the server, dynamically, so that pricing information could be updated correctly, immediately. When a system like that goes down, and it did use all proprietary software we developed in house, it was a hell of a mess. The stress is something I cannot even describe, specially during business hours. It is expected to be back up within minutes, so you tell your customers, the retail stores, that you will be up soon as possible, but they want a time, they press you for an exact time they can count on.

So you guess, you make your best stab at guessing when you will have them up and running again, and that's all it is is a guess. You are trying to give them what they are crying and complaining for, and in doing so many times cannot meet the estimated time you gave.

Perhaps if your experience was more service related, and not in the long drawn out process of creating software and even missing those deadlines, then maybe you would see things differently. I would prefer the DEVs giving us an estimated time, a guess, anything, than nothing at all. Silence would really bring out the trolls, at least they attempt to give us a good time they will be back up.

Just because you work for a software company, don't fool yourself into believing you even for a second understand the situation for the DEVs working on a system that is running almost 24/7. You at the very least get to create software, if in fact you program, without having to cater to the whining maggots pandering for updates on a minute by minute basis.

Goons and their meta-gaming. Is this also considered fun, free and fair CCP? It is after all happening on the server. Perhaps it's all part of the sandbox.

That's the oldest reason for hate in the universe... Rather than work to raise oneself up, tear others down. It's easier to destroy than to build, and easier to blame others than take stock of oneself.

much of eve online ui is python based with class extensions controlled with xml parameters.

what i am experiencing recently is the faulting for sync() for the UI.ELEMENT to load what the player is intended to see compared to what the player customizes the player UI to have in configuration.

enoguh for this an thank you for your noted comment an support for the bug report post.
