WH: Keep or destroy old offline POSs?

I have set up in a C1 WH. The WH has 3 old offline towers, 2 med 1 large, that are still present.

The old towers have all their guns still there from old deathstar set ups. I was wondering if leaving the towers up for now helps to deter some of the WH traffic from lesser experienced explorers, who when they come in, they see all the guns in system and decide not to mess.

Eventually, I'd plan on adding a few other towers of my own, and would like to take these towers down and grab the guns and ECM.

What do you guys typically do or recommend in this setting?

Also, I've been wondering, what is a good ship/fit for sieging these towers in a c1? Are BC's able to take these down effectively? Or do I need to use SB and Tengus?

Thanks,

Me, I have "force field" selected on my overview settings. So, if I see 4 towers on D-scan but only 1 force field, I'm going to automatically know that 3 of them are offline. Not much of a deterrent then, unless the system only has 4 moons. If it does, then with no open moons anyone else would need to destroy a tower in order to clear a space to anchor a new one.

And as to destroying it, is it just going to be one ship? That's going to take a LONG time if so. A Caldari large tower has 50 million shield hitpoints, and offline towers still have their shields; they just don't have the force field bubble to keep you away. It can be done in battlecruisers but will take a long time. If it is just going to be you doing the shooting, the best solution might be to haul in an Armageddon BPC and an assembly array, build a battleship in the hole, and afk-shoot the tower. Tech 1 laser crystals don't degrade so you'd never have to reload, you can get as close as you like without the force field so you can use multifrequency, and with the 'Geddon you can toss in a full flight of heavy drones for extra damage.

PVP is a question with no single right answer, but a lot of wrong ones.

I agree on the forcefield, that's why I said, may keep away some traffic from less experienced explorers.

I have many chars and can get plenty of support from others as well.

Tengu, legions, any bc. Good idea on building a BS in system though, maybe I'll try that too.

Yeah, the way to do it is likely with a large Amarr ship with T1 crystals, it'll take much less effort than if you need to bring in ammo. Don't completely AFK though, it is a wormhole afterall.

Not worth the effort, and doesn't bring any benefits, hence, why your predecessors didn't destroy them already. The chances of original owners coming back is negligible. At least some noobs will stay away because of it, which is a pro, and there's no con. So... why bother?

You should leave them.

Towers on moons means moons that can't be towered by someone new. Less moons that could potentially be towered is a good thing.

I hate abandoned towers. Why do people leave their shi#..t in space?

I really hate not being able to hack them, and then sell them, or at least pull them down for abandoned scrap.

If I see towers but no force fields I tend to go and check them out. I got a hulk that way once.

I have tried contacting the owning corp when I have found abandoned towers with a proposal to allow an alt to join their corp and unanchor so I could take it away and sell it or re-use it. Offered the 25% of the Jita price. What have they got to lose, its dead money for them anyway!

Mostly didn't hear from anyone although one guy I talked to was keen. His corp veto'd it because my alt might be able to pick up intel while briefly a member of their corp.

Gave up after a while. Would love to see a way to take down these abandoned towers productively as there are loads of them about

PS. I have been lucky once or twice with abandoned cans around an abandoned POS - thanks for the free nanos Big smile

The only modules worth popping at a POS (ship maint array, labs, corp hangar) can be popped without popping the tower once its offline. The small amount of isk youd get from selling any gun mods (assuming they arent faction) wouldnt be worth the effort required to pop the tower if its a large, especially in a C1.

Also, having that tower there means that nobody else can put one there. That can be useful if for example the planet is the only one out of Dscan range from your tower, and there are no other open moons at the planet.

Got a sleipnir, ferox, and about 7 other ships that way once... all out of the same offline tower. The maint array was still there :)

Some rat bastard put down a tower in our hole....while we had our online tower in the hole. Thankfully it was a small, but still, it takes forever to cut through any tower, regardless of it's size.
