Please, for the love of all things ... well, that blow up and go BOOM:

1. Eve should be runnable from an external hard drive, usb stick, etc, so we can get our "Neural Fix" wherever! Settings shouldn't have to be redone in this situation.

2. Eve should never depend on Windows Registry or otherwise leave a footprint on a System when the user specifically wants a stand alone installation.

3. Eve should have an explicit option to NOT use "My Documents," and every setting, etc, would be inlined with the installation, (cache, etc).

4. Settings, (overview settings, keyboard shortcuts, etc), should be sharable between accounts for multi-boxers.

5. This is SO pie in the sky, but the Eve installation should have a root Eve folder of some sort, a Mac folder, a Windows folder, and a Linux folder, and a "Shared" or "Common Folder" ... and MOST OF ALL, A SETTINGS FOLDER that isn't O.S. dependent. Test Server stuff, VIP, should also be figured in that somehow as well, so Settings can be imported into that installation branch without the potential of corrupting the production code.

6. NO MORE @#$@^ #$@#$ RIGHT HANDED DISCRIMINATIONISTIC SETTINGS THAT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST US FEW EPICALLY SUPERIOR LEFT HANDED PEOPLE.

7. *Cough. A button that lets you auto unset EVERY "clearable" shortcut key at once... Cuz yes, us left handed people probably don't want to keep anything the same as we use the numpad, A LOT.

8. OSX HAS NO NUMLOCK. PLEASE I BEG YOU. Please Have Eve Online switch to NUMLOCK ON mode in OSX, so we can also map our page up, down, right arrow, etc, keys separately from the numpad.

9. Overview "Views" that prioritize drones down .... even if they are closer... Or other ship types, based on if they are in your fleet, faction, corp, etc.

10. For the above mentioned Addicts: Please, PLEASE, PLEEZ, update the video card settings to support switchable graphics cards, so that we can get Eve to use the fast GPU, rather than the intel HD graphics card, or whatever.

Hello CCP Fear and whoever else reads this thread that matters. I have a few settings that I would like to be easily imported and exported.

1. Market quickbar: This is a valuable tool for traders that takes an hour or so to set up per account. When doing a clean reinstall of EVE these settings are not saved. Sometimes all of the quickbar items can be deleted with a few misclicks. There is no way to undo that mistake! An easy import/export of these settings would also be great for people that use multiple pc's.

known workaround: login into api manager and figure out account number. Go to appdata and copy all of the files with the associated account number.

2. Window positions: Setting up the same window layout on multiple accounts is extremely difficult. Adding isboxer into the mix greatly magnifies this issue.

known workaround: I've been told that if I choose one window layout that I like I can then copy that file and rename it accordingly to all of my account numbers. Doing this on 12+ accounts, problems will arise.

3. Importing ships from EFT folder. I don't know if it's just me but I always have to clear all ships of the same type in order to see the newly imported file.

known workaround: Have someone else import it?

Thank you

1) Every single bit of setting :) I hate having to spend time to redo some configuration stuff when I reinstall or play on another computer. Excepted of course graphics settings since they change per machine, not per user.

2) The ideal would be automated synchronization with storage on CCP server. You login, configuration is loaded, you are happy. You log off, configuration is saved. Done.
A cheaper solution would be a button in the launcher to generate an archive with a manifest of some sort, and another button to import said archive. And don't save it in an obscure folder, give user the choice via a dialog window (overview export, I'm looking at you !) !

3) Sharing settings is very useful , particularly overviews, since they are a PITA to do ... So both online backuping and archive export could be complementary.

Let's eat this settings stuffed PITA Blink

1) What settings would you like to have stored?
All possible knobs, toggles, custom list, custom group you can name. Stored with character server data.
Allow to create backup/test profiles for storing settings. Allow to mark one of them to be an active profile.

2) How would you expect the synchronization (import/export) to function? What would the interaction be?
Automatically from active profile, when choosing character to play.
Exception: manual synchronization for hardware related settings: graphics & controls. Difference detection and prompt to choose what parts to synchronize would be nice.
Offline export/import to/from file. Online, to/from server saved settings profiles.

3) How would you go about sharing settings with other players? (directly or in-directly)
Sharing server saved settings profiles via evemail, channels, web account management (settings transfer).
Sharing offline profile files via all imaginable methods...

Thanx for that initiative CCP Smile

Arrow How about being able to save your EVE settings within EVE Gate?
(thus being able to download it anywhere and applying it to a local EVE installation)

It should automatically export your settings periodically, and it should update on every launch. Simple.

As for what: Overview first and foremost, then other important settings.

One thing I want which is always overlooked

I want the Filter Presets on Broadcasts tied into my overview settings !!

So For my PVP-Logistics filter I want it to save that I have removed "Broadcast Target" on the overview setting.

Then when I switch to my PVP-DPS filter I want it to remember that I now want to see my broadcast target but I don't care about who is broadcastign for armor anymore.

Frankly the lack of this makes people not even use the function because it is way to easy to forget to set it back between different types of pvp until it is too late.

Export/import all the settings which are not ship-specific, that is except module positions. Simple as that.

We should be able to save settings on the server, and we should also be able to send it to others as a link.

It would be awesome to have a option to sync everything between clients. Lets say a option in the "esc" menu that attempts to syncronize everything between all open EVE client instances. Including chat channels, window positions, fonts, overview settings, etc etc.

Ofc with chat channels it should ask for passwords where appropiate and/or just ignore the channels for which the character whos open does not have rights to (for example, standings based channels where character in question does not have the needed standings).

That way I could set up one client just the way I like - customize colors, where are the drone and fleet windows etc, chat channel locations and sizes and then could easily syncronize all the rest with that "perfectly" set up client to have everything in right places everywhere so I dont need to think where is the intel channel or local channel on this particluar client or spend hours setting up them all in the same way only for it all to be messed up the second I change the window size by accident.

And shortcuts - shortcuts should be syncronized as well.

Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... THWONK! GOT the bastard.

I think having a simple config file, that games such as Quake in all its iterations always had, where users can modify in game and then save/re-write, or modify in Notepad etc.

What I would save is Keyboard Shortcuts, Overview settings, I would not save things like graphic options as everyone's machines differ and would not be useful.

Make it simple to import/export settings and allow partials to load as well, what I mean by this is for instance:

I have a config file that has my War Overview but everything else is different and someone only needs the War Overview, and does not want to change their buttons, allow users to select export only Overview as a file, and when someone loads it into their client voila, only the overview has changed.

Can work as both client side/server side, like Quake Live itself stores on its server and allows you to save your own config on your PC.

Anyways just my thoughts.

I may get heat because of this, anyway, here it is:

Switchable Server side client settings for accounts.

- Let's say you've 1.000.000 actively playing players in your server.
- Each of them has 4kb big overview xml data.
- You have got 4.000.000kb of overview data, which is ~4000mb, which is ~4gb. I should have a flash stick here somewhere that you guys can stuck into your great machine in order to store all ppls settings.
- If every single player gets 10 accounts on 10 different hardware that's 400kb per player, 400gb of data for everyone. Since only 4kb would be transferred during logon, no probs here (remember bulk data when logging in? put it there). I would gladly send my 500gb drive, sitting in my wardrobe. WD black edition. Will do the job :P

At this far point in technology, we're still talking about exporting/importing settings.
I will leave "how to share settings" thinking up to you, there are 18329461983468392 ways of doing it if you store in your server.

I'd like to be able to store settings into profiles and launch the EVE client with a specific profile provided via command-line. I currently have two EVE installations because I use the same account/character in two drastically different use cases. I have a windowed mode for one form of gameplay, and a full screen mode for a different form of gameplay, on the same account/character, each with very different chat/overview/video/window size&position settings.

I hope that any improvement to settings would, at best, include some kind of switchable/selectable profile to enable this and make it so I could just swap between these two setting profiles with a command line parameter using one EVE install. At worst, I certainly hope CCP doesn't centralize settings to an account/character in such a way that it removes my ability to have these two completely different use cases on the same account and character even when using multiple client installs.

Since we're talking about settings... How about being able to set some default settings of our own??? Such as, in chats, we don't want to see the pictures on each line, we don't want to see the pictures on the right, and how about the default size of the font used? Or, in the overview - when we set the waypoint - how about letting us change the color of the waypoint marker of the next stargate? (your pale yellow sucks - sorry)

Thank you!

I want to have a simple option in the menu that allows me to choose whether I save my settings on my account, on my computer, or both. The things I want saved most are the in-station icons down the left part of the screen and everything I have setup in the overview. It would also be nice if I could make changes to the way the game saves window shapes and positioning. I want my cargoholds to always open in the same part of the screen no matter what ship I am using, but to have a different setting for in station vs. in space.

Couple of things I have noticed that could be helped with settings import / export

1) If you close all windows then all your chat channels close as compared to minimize. If they have passwords its a pain in the tuckus to have to go back, find all the channels and passwords, to reload. This a) shouldn't happen, and b) be ripe for a settings option so that you don't have to go through this if you are trying to do filming or such without the GUI getting in the way.

2) Overview: 5 tabs are definitely not enough. I'm constantly switching between overview set-ups depending if I'm doing incursions, mining, pve, pvp, etc.. Would be nice if we could save a group of 5 tabs and then call them all up at once

3) Window placement and sizing: again - similar to the overview, I typically have different placement of windows depending on the activity: station trading vs mining vs incursions. Would be nice to have an option to save the size and placement of the windows so that you just call up the profile you want and Poof! there they are - the way you need them

4) Fitting Management: better control over getting fittings in/out of the fittings management window. Direct text import would be appreciated rather than constantly having to save to file first and then import. Similar with export.

5) Fitting Management: PLEASE INCREASE THIS FROM THE CURRENT LIMITS OF 100/200 !!!!!!!!

6) Browser Bookmarks. Change to allow folders and possibly exchange of bookmark information between links as part of the in-game browser and google/ie/ff

7) Science and Industry: The manufacturing. copying, invention, ME/PE research interface is really bad. For stations I get it, but if you own a POS where there are a limited number of people with access it would be nice to have standard jobs available that you can just trigger without having to go through 20 mouse clicks. i.e. blueprint, bp location (in/out), submission type (mfr, inv, cpy), assembly unit, number of runs. Once you have set this up once it should just be a single click to re-execute. The ability to a) do this with one mouse click and then b) import / export the settings would be a huge improvement over the existing process.

Whatever is decided, I hope the system is tested with standard backup programs and techniques. The files should not be locked from duplication/copying. I want to be able to take that file and create incremental backups of it. I created my own backup utility using rar.exe as an engine.

Also, the system should create its own backup file in the same directory (similar to sessionstore.js in Firefox). In fact, Firefox creates multiple backups of its bookmarks. The EVE settings file(s) is a small, but critical, set of data worth going the extra mile to preserve.

firstly im a very new player to eve and im no computer genius either so what ever is done about this issue NEEDS to be simple like save and load (import/export whatever floats your boat)

1. personally i have 2 characters that are completely different (not accounts) i noticed that when i switch from one alt to another the settings are unchanged, uncool. one of my alts is pretty much just a miner (for now) and my second is PVP/bounty hunter. what i would like is to just save my window settings (or just have them consistent for that specific character). as far as the overview goes i don't see a need to have more then 5 tabs per character so as long as each character has his own profile/setup.

2. "(or just have them consistent for that specific character)", "NEEDS to be simple like save and load (import/export whatever floats your boat)"

3. with one of my overview settings i went with a website found by google which had pictures of what it should look like for simplicity. that's fin with me because the settings should be saved in the first place so big woop if it takes me an hour (+) to get everything the way i like it as it would be the only time i should fiddle with it. (in WOW the buttons were reset on every major update but i was more then ok with it as it only happened once every 3 or 4 months

I would like to be able to send or receive the overview sttings to/from others.

I would like to have a templated Overview and other settings inheritable from the corp. So on my part I should select an option to make my settings inheritable. On the Corp side the CEO or director should be able to save the Overview settings to make them corp-member inheritable. Maybe the settings could be inherited from the player holding a specific corp role... It would make the life of people so much simpler and also show which corps are good when you join them. Also the ability to synch with the FC when you are in fleet would be very good.

I hope this helps. Thank you.
