Bad Manners in Space

I'm new to EVE, so I don't know if claim jumpers are viewed in a poor light or whatnot. I was mining an asteroid, and some other miner started mining the rock I was on. Is that considered bad manners?

In other games it's considered bad manners to gather resources someone else is working on, but this is EVE, where even piracy is encouraged, and thus the question is posed.

I tried to message the miner, but was refused communications.

What should I make of all this?

Watch this space.  New exciting signature in development.

Yes it's very bad manners, I'd be quite angry if someone mined my rock. Also miners don't like player interaction which is why he refused your message. One way to deal with him is to force him to interact with a blaster catalyst.

It happens all the time.

You have several options;

1) Shrug and say "theres plenty of rocks in space, its no biggie" and move on

2) Growl to yourself, rant in local, and change system to be away from them

3) Declare the belt as yours and declare Wars on any other mining corp who dares touch your rocks

4) Find out where his base is and hire some mercenaries to kick his door in in the middle of the night, drag him out of bed, tie him to the docking ring and have his entire family ejected into space in front of him as a warning that subhuman filth like him should think twice about messing with you.

Also, never kill your enemy in front of his family, thats the wrong way around and just breeds stupid martyrs.

My understanding is that it's rude to mine the same rock.

Though there isn't much you can do about claim jumpers or bot miners outside of piracy. That being said, piracy opens so many doors.

How about a mechanic that wont let more than one player lock a roid. It would make ice mining more interesting aswell.

What a dumb suggestion. Five days w/o internets and I come back to this. Sad

Fake edit: oh, I forgot - it's the EVE-O forums. nvm

EVE is harsh. Deal with it. Don't like it? Find another MMO, or just do what several people have suggested - get a gank Catalyst and blow the guy up.

But, yeah...mining the same 'roid...

Where /exactly/ do you mine again? ( see signature for hint to a future "event")

I would suggest you report the offender to the player James 315. He runs an alliance that polices miners and makes sure that these miscreants are not behaving badly such as what happened to you. His organization is The New Order: alliance ticker CODE.

Depends who got their first and what you're mining with. If you're on Strip Miners and not much is left in the rock, it'll be a very tense game of Russian roulette... who's going to cash out first...

F**k you and excuse the rant/roidrage. EVE is a sandbox.

When I mine I am don't give a damn about if you are mining from a from a rock in space. My sole purpose is to gather as much resources as possible in a short a possible a time and if that means I am mining from the same rock as you, then go call the waaaaaaaaambulance or something. As far as I am concerned it is just PvP in another form (save the blatantly obvious one of shooting at other players).

Besides, have you paid your mining fee?

In eve, if you can grab it and hold on to it, it's yours, and its every man for himself. It's like musical chairs but everyone has a flamethrower.
