The server has crashed because eveapi response object was undefined. That's the first time I encountered this error.

I have added validation measures so it doesn't happen again in the future.

New Eden Faces should be back up online in a few minutes.

The server was down again just now, but it's not entirely my fault. There was a problem connecting to the database; something was wrong on their end (MongoLab).

I wish the server could just restart itself when it crashes, since it does not, I have to do error validation on every single thing to avoid server crashing all together. This was the first time the app crashed due to database connection error.

The website should be up and running now!

Kairavi has asked me to remove her character from the database awhile back. (Who knows why). But I knew this would happen, someone would add her again to the site.

Update (June 27, 2013)

Improved security: Each vote request will require a nonce - randomly generated hash string, which will then be matched with the server for validity. This is in addition to existing checking for voted characters and IP addresses. (Thanks @Danica Kaliinen)

Hall of Shame: The top 25 worst characters will go here. I advise not to look, some characters will leave an image so awful in your head, that you won't be able to erase it.

Stability: Added more error handlers to prevent a potential server crash.

What are the criteria for appearing in the Top 100? Seems to be a minimum number of total votes. How many, and are there any other limitations?

There are times that I have also felt obligated to vote for or against certain Eve personalities and I am sure we are not the only ones considering how high Vile Rat scores. Also when I am having a difficult time deciding I will often side with the more active forum poster or "familiar face." There are also those occasions where I just find it difficult to vote for someone due to their name ie "Semen Drinker" "Slutface Mcgee" or "Dirty Sluts." I think I also tend to give bonus points to all those good looking non Sebiestor/Achura out there when conflicted between two characters.

I am pushing another update right now which should fix some problems with server crashing.

@Tollen Gallen: I am aware of the problem, it's related to the "feature" that prevents you from seeing other characters until you vote on your current character pair. I haven't found the exact problem what that may be causing this behavior.

In the next update:

- remove the lowest ranking character every 6 hours instead of every 2 days
- reset the leaderboard every week (display old results in the History/Archive page)
- per user character collection, no more global counters, every user gets his/her own set of portraits. This will simplify the code and should resolve existing bugs where you get stuck on two characters or stuck on the blue ribbon that says "you have reached the end, refresh the browser".
- add a report button on the home page (next to character's name) for quick reporting of faceless characters, or offensive names, or whatever.
- bring keyboard shortcuts left arrow, right arrow back but with the condition - "keyUp", i.e. you have to release the key before the vote is cast. Previously you can just hold the arrow key and cast hundreds of votes within a few seconds because it was working on "keyDown" event.

the older site used to have a face-off feature where you could pic someone to go head to head with. that would be fun to have back.
