Eurydia what makes you think that? If it's the high losses numbers, it could be, not entirely sure, be related to not having a skip button. As I've mentioned above having a skip button presents its own problems and potential abusing, but not having it people will just click random image if they don't like either avatars in order to see next results.
Here's an example with Wins: 40 Losses: 245 lol
Someone really hated me showing up in top 14 highest rated a couple times :)


Sorry about that, after the update it seems that losses count was doubling each time you vote. There are now over 150,000 losses. In these short few hours it surpassed number of wins threefold. Fixing it right now.

I will be resetting the stats as as result of this change. That's only fair to everyone.

I believe the reset didn't affect everyone. I see many characters still with high loss / high ratio. I did have wins in the range of 70 before. Most of the top characters right now only have 3-5 wins, so those with a few hundred definitely don't make any sense. I am pretty sure that bug has been eliminated.

@JAG Fox: That bug you reported about where wins count was decremented was due to the design. When multiple people load the website, they have their own copy of character data. So when someone wins it's not just incrementing count but it's incrementing according to your data. Then if someone stumbles upon your avatar after your win count increased, it will overwrite the wins count, thus either bringing it down or leaving it the same instead of increasing.
This problem should be fixed now.

Update: There seems to be something really strange going on. The reset did work, but crazy wins and losses numbers still kept showing up, by the thousands, and sometimes even decreasing. Not sure what's going on there. Wins and Loss count should equal to each other in any case.

I just pushed another update, and things seem to be working fine now. After 5 votes, the database has in total 5 wins and 5 losses. If something weird happens again then it's an external fault, or one sneaky bastard bug.

You may wanna add the "skip" counter, unless it is not possible.
Actually you could add it or use it as factor to lower an avatar's rating.
If someone gets skipped all the time - lower the rating.

Or at least it could provide interesting data.

i like that idea! if i skip it's because i don't want to choose from 2 equally stupid pics..

also having a problem where one or both images are not loading. this is happening a lot!

edit: i'm also pressing "s" when an image doesn't load. i guess i could just hit reload

this happens a whole lot though. i personally wont be happy unless the E.T looking avatar is #1

The images not loading is an issue that was also causing loss count not to be updated from time to time. I was able to replicate the problem locally, fix is coming in now.

Thanks for the skip counter suggestion, I will consider adding it.

UPDATE: So far so good. Don't seem to be any bugs in the rating algorithm.

Doh, the top 100 at the time of this post is totally made of not-previously-100 faces. Can't find even a single Top 100 from yesterday, not even notorious winners. Shocked

PS: nevermind, I read about the resets... top ranker is 4:1. Lol

Please introduce a software based button to skip, pressing "s" starts the text search in my browser, which is really annoying on the site.

I have added the skip button per Mona Oskold request.

Alice Saki, the leaderboards have been temporarily switched to sort by # of wins, until the issue is resolved where 0 wins 0 losses characters were in top ranks. You are currently #5 if that makes you feel any better Big smile.

As it is, without any additional changes it creates some imbalance due to the nature of randomness: some people will have higher number of wins while others lower number of wins, even it's a good looking avatar. Once I add in the feature that will automatically balance everyone by the median of total votes, everyone will have a fair shot of being seen, and in that case # of wins would be a pretty accurate representation of ranking system.

I have also added an image lightbox on profile pages. If you click on an avatar it opens up a nice 1024x1024 image with a semi-transparent black background. So go check it out.

@AndromacheDarkstar, I am sorry, don't know what to tell you, but I don't mind if you tip me some ISK and in return you can look at my avatar and pretend it's Asphxia Noir. P

I'm so bad at Eve'ing. I don't get the rules. Normally I would have expected 100 pages of flame posts about barbies in space and WiS and how this has nothing to do with spaceships. Are you telling people actually care about and craft the look of their avatars and that is ok? What's next, dogs and cats living together?

Some people just like to have something to complain about. Generally, it takes shape in deriding how people other than themselves have fun. We have a word for that type of person where I come from. We call them ***holes. Fortunately, none of their type have deigned to drop in on us yet here.
