Is it just me or did the amount of misgendered portraits suddenly increase?

I underestimated the male to female character ratio by a long shot. Had I set all newly added characters as male, there would be much less gender mismatch. I have already converted a few thousand characters to their proper gender manually, and people are still reporting gender mismatches. Once all characters are assigned their correct gender I wll do a proper score reset.

Just pushed an update that will hopefully make things a little faster. Previously it was pulling all 9000+ characters when you load the page so you could start typing character's name in the search box and it would autocomplete the name. Plus added a few other javascript optimizations.

Lipbite, as far as avatar quality goes, I suppose I can't make everyone happy. Too few characters (even if they are all good looking) makes the website uninteresting after a while, not to mention easy to abuse. Too many characters results in: a few good characters and the rest are just average or just plain awful.

All stats have been reset. Additionally, many characters have been removed in the order of lowest win-loss ratio. Male to female ratio is close to 1:1 now, so you won't end up with a scenario where you have nothing but male character votes for the next 1000 votes because all female characters have already been voted on.

Wow, just jumped in to do a few votes and see where I was at post-reset, and wound up voting probably 30 or 40 times.

It's getting better and better. I saw amazing, tough to call match-ups almost exclusively. In retrospect, that strikes me as a little odd since nobody seems to have more than one vote yet - shouldn't the pairings feel more random? Maybe they were and I'm imagining it, or got a lucky string of contests.

Either way, keep at it Nova; your dedication to this project is apparent through its continued improvement.

Now all you need is a way to significantly broaden your voting base, so you actually have a beauty pageant instead of a popularity contest. ;)

A good time for a reset, in my opinion. Now you have a nice base of characters to vote on and most of the people that like to run through the stack down-voting everything but themselves and the uglies will be less inclined to practice their pathetic cries for attention.

I'm glad to see you have persevered with this, Nova. Not many would have stuck with it this long trying their level best to make a fair game for people to distract themselves with.

Respect.

If you change your avatar, does it update on the site? Just curious

It does.

Good work, Nova. I can see that there are roughly 3000 less characters entered than there were yesterday, but this is still an appropriate time to restart.

Houm, it's interesting how now the diversity has improved. Qutie often, one must pick between two portraits which you don't like but one is clearly better than the other. And have only come across one time where I felt like throwing both characters to a trashbin.

Still can't stop clicking...

(I also expect you to rig the voting and put myself and CCP Falcon in 1st and 2nd places respectively. Twisted )

I knew that things were odd with the last round since Celeste was paired up against an avatar who was rather odd looking. I'm sure that was a good reason why she did so well last counter reset compared to previous rounds.

On the other hand I had no idea that people out there thought she is an ugly avatar. 4 loses to 3 wins, and I think one of those wins is actually one of my votes. Ah well, at least most of my other avatars are actually doing well, and in some cases better than that last weird "locked" batch where my favorites did either extremely well or poorly. I am glad overall for the reset and am sure things will even out over time for an even better list than the last one. My favorite is still the one 3 resets ago (last being the character lock, and the one before being ruined by the voting spam, so the one before that with the previous victories listing) even though I didn't have a character in the top 10 for most of the run.

Actually I remember a bunch of negative votes (and just a ton of votes) for most of the avatars that I like at the beginning of each reset. I don't tend to visit the site any more or less throughout a cycle, so perhaps things will eventually settle down,

I wonder how many peeps have been ganked whilst furiously clicking on this site and not paying heed to local or their surroundings?

I bet it's quite a lot.

Hey! So this is back! Love the site, and looking forward to more features. Going to waste a lot of time clicking here....

Thanks!!!

Edit: How about that feature where you can nominate people as twins? Apologies if this has been suggested before. In previous such sites, I enjoyed when you could start a competition between two characters based on one personality characteristic e.g. trustworthy, slimy, cute.

I am planning to bring back Previous Matches in the near future. But this time hopefully with a better implementation. Instead of just last 5 matches, display a history of all matches with an infinite scroll support, sorted in chronological order.

Your avatar is far from being ugly. Many avatars in the Top leaderboard are no longer present. Nova Kierra is not even in Top 100 anymore. It is still to early to tell, there are only 38k votes compared to the half a million during the last round.

I hope that most people are docked in station when they are voting.

Yes it uses your current avatar. It used to save a local copy, but I quickly ran out of database space when there were about 3000 characters.

Will take it in consideration. I was planning to add character traits feature, but doing a competition between other characters for a particular trait seems more involved and I need to think it through how easy or difficult it would be to implement it. Thanks for your suggetion. I always liked that idea on a character voting website for EVE Online that used to be active about 2 years ago. (http://facecardgame.com/eve/)

Thats hotornot.com, and after seeing the OPs linky i'd say it is heavily influenced by those kind of sites.

Houm... one of my girls has got 16 wins to 3 losses, 84.2 % win ratio, but doesn't shows at the list, despite boith the general list and the girls list shows characters with 80%, 16 vs 4 and lower ratios. What?

Give it and some time and scores will adjust over time. Right now there are many characters with the wins/losses that you mentioned. If your score 16-3 is the same as hundred other characters, there is no particular order in which they will be displayed.
