To spew or not to spew

Good lord I hate the loot spew.

Why, you ask?

It is an anti-reward. You clickety click through the mini game and win it, then you lose a portion of the loot that spews forth from the container. Even though we all know by now that the loot the average player can retrieve with the new mechanic is about the same or maybe better than it was pre-Odyssey, we're still left with that horrid, empty feeling about the ones that got away.

It is also anathema to the rest of Eve. No where else in the game, even combat, is a player required to have mad point and click skillz.

Not to mention that we are a space-faring people able to propel giant ships across dizzingly vast expanses of space like it were nothing. We can also use stasis webifiers to wrap up ships. Why can't that same webby technology be used to contain the spew? I am sure someone would invent it if Eve were real (oops...did I let that cat out of the bag? Sorry). Hell, a good sturdy pice of latex over the container should catch everything just fine.

Looking back, it was possible to hack/analyze pretty much every loot box. It was a matter of time and whether or not the computer generated dice roll worked in your favor. For myself, if it took too long with the skills and gear I had, I moved on within 2 minutes. But, if I did manage to get lucky I was rewarded with everything in the container. All was good in New Eden.

Now, we can lose everything. First, losing the minigame twice makes the container blow up good. (As an aside, how is it a ship can blow up violently and we can still get loot (many times the same stuff as relic and data sites) but not with these sites? Hmmmm??)

We can also lose even if we win. Oh joy. Give me some more of that.

So, how to we fix this travesty that has been wrought upon us?

I propose we keep the spew.

Say what?

Yep, keep it. But only if we lose the minigame. You get one try at hacking/analyzing. If you defeat the core VOILA! You get all the loot and no spew. Every drop is accounted for. You're living the dream.

But, if you lose the minigame a spew ensues. You can still get loot, but less of it. How much less depends on how badly you failed at the minigame.

If you have an epic fail in the minigame, the loot spews at high speed and the cans deteriorate quickly. The less epic your failure, the slower the cans and deterioration. Make it roughly so that an epic fail will yield 10% of the goodies while a well-fought, but still lost, battle gets you 50% at most. Even in the event of an epic fail, a quick-eyes player with mad clicky skillz could still nab one of those sweet BPCs. CCP could make the valuable stuff go faster and deteriorate quicker, if they like. This makes sense.

There - problem solved and CCP can keep the spew.

There is much rejoicing.
