Does anyone else want auto updates for EVE Online?

I am so mad that CCP doesn't already have this, I made a video talking about this.

Do you think CCP should add automatic updates to EVE Online since all updates are mandatory to play the game?

Auto-updating is evil and should be stopped at all costs. I don't want something in my computer without my approval and/or knowledge.

That way... if something goes wrong... I have a shorter list of things to point the finger at (and subsequently remove).

Just my 2 cents.

Fake edit: call me a masochist... but I don't believe that everything should be TOO convenient.

Fake edit2: Also... first world problems.

They can make it where you can opt out

I would definitely like auto-updating to be a thing especially for those of us using Steam. I don't hate things the way they are now, but, personally, auto-updating just makes life simpler.

I came to this thread confused. Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks my EvE updates automatically. Big smile

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

The problem is you have to wait for the update to get done. Also, If you use the game window for any reason you still have to OK it.

It starts the patching process the moment the launcher is...um...launched.

I wouldn't mind an optional automatic update feature.

One thing I pointed out in my video is you have to wait for 5 min for the update to download and install. Sometimes it can take up to 15 min. (Worst if it's a big update)
If we had an auto update then we can just login and play without waiting for the update to get done.

As far as the game window. I"m talking about the game window and not the launcher. Some people including myself bypass the launcher all together because some of us was screwed by the offline thing. (I even have guides on this) We still have to click OK. The update will take us to the old style to download which takes us to the launcher to install.

wonders what OP would've thought about the average update process 10 years ago....

it was fairly routine that people would just download the whole client because patches would so often bork things up. And no, we didn't have bit-torrents in the beginning...

Things are pretty good now.

Would I like to set it so that I could always just log in? Sure, but easy-buttons come with a price, and we've got it pretty easy already.

So are you saying you don't want it because we have it too "easy" now. That's a crappy reason.

I've heard of some good reasons like people are worried it may mess up their computer, or it could make troubleshooting harder. The answer to this would be simply to opt out.

Everything else is going on board of the auto updates (besides other MMO). Eventually it will get to the point where MMO's will need to have the ability to auto update. So if you don't like the auto update idea because it's too easy or it makes people lazy. Then your only choice is to set an end date on when you will totally stop playing MMOs that last like EVE.

Get a better internet service provider.

Also we cant play before a patch is finished because the game wont work until you have the new stuff.

I'm not trying to say we have it too easy now.

I'm saying it's not very hard now.

And while I'd rather see them work on this than any more mini-game concepts, I'd rather see them spend their time on on tiericide, UI improvements, more content, and bug-fixing.

I wouldn't be mad if they did auto-updates, but I just don't share your passion on the subject.

No.

If you play a lot of games, can you imagine the problem auto-updating can cause...while trying to play a game and it kicks in?

I literally disable STEAM to be free of it. When I'm ready to play a game, I will update it then.

So the answer to everyone in the world is to get a few $100 T line put in so they can get the update then and now. (The "patch" or what I call a update will be downloaded and installed via an auto update.)

I'm not sure why you don't want this to happen. Can you tell me? But, before you do let me tell you what you will be getting and losing.

GAIN:

Faster game play time. (I mean you can just open up the launcher or game window and login with no waiting on a update)

Lost:

Nothing since you can opt out.

Lets talk about what it cost CCP. A few hours of code and some slight testing. So in the long run virtually nothing.

Here is a fix. Opt out. BTW thanks for the real reason on no. A lot of people are being trolls and saying it makes things too easy.
