Issue with map while scanning

When I pull up my map for scanning, the map is centered on my current location. However, when i launch probes and try to move them where i want them, I need to angle the map so i can set them on a vertical axis as well as horizontal. When I adjust the camera it still moves as it its attached in a way to my location on the map. So if my location is far away from the probes, it makes it sometimes near impossible to scan down some signitures. Is this a bug or just a part of the game?
