Old and Inactive Corp Removal

I've been trying to set up a small corporation but I've been having trouble finding a name and ticker that makes sense.
Every time I tried a ticker it chucked back "This ticker is already in use" or something along those lines, when I googled the corp I have found it with a few people who seem to have inactive accounts, 4 years of inactivity in some cases, because of this inactivity the corp wasn't closed.
I know corps are meant to be persistent but I think that it would be good to open up some corp names and tickers of corps that don't have any active members.
I would say this could apply to alliances but I don't know what goes on with them.
What I'm suggesting is:
- Check for corporations that are made up of inactive members, 4 months or so.
- Force the inactive player accounts on to a NPC Corp.
- Disband the corp allowing for new corps to use the free names and Tickers.
- Or at least make it so you can file a "Inactive Corporation Challenge" or something like that.

(I looked for other posts like this but I didn't find anything)
(If what I've just said is a load of rubbish sorry)

So what if I come back six months later and want my corp name back? Why do you have more rights to it than me?

Definately in favor of something like this (and I don't even have any desire to start a corporation). I know how frustrating it is to seek a name in an mmorpg only to find it's taken by someone from a trial account or a level 10 character who hasn't played in over 3 years (and likely will never play the game again).

I think 4 months is a little low for inactivity time. Make it at least 1 year.

A bit more complicated would be to gage the length of play and activity level prior to inactivity. If it's a long standing corp then the inactivity time should be longer. Also it might be nice to send an E-mail to the account E-mail address on record to indicate that if they do not log in to preserve their corp name it will be recycled.

I get it, 4 months long enough. As FireFox said Email the corp owners after say 9 months as a warning then if they don't claim it in the following three months that's a year, if you haven't managed to get £10 / €15 / $15 for a subscription in 12 months then, I'd say, it's looking unlikely that you'd come back to EVE.

Many players return after 3-4years of inactivity.

Also why do you think there is no name changing service? Answer this question and you'll understand just how bad your idea is.

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

Sorry I don't follow? Where do we say there's no name changing service? I searched for it but everything came back saying that you can't name change anything, character, corp etc.

If you come back to the game after 3 years that's nice for you. I see no recompensation for inactive corporations or players that have their assets blown up as a direct result of 3rd party interference while they were away.

Maybe we could make this much simpler?

Every month a corp must pay a fee in ISK. This ISK fee can only be paid by active accounts. Ergo, a corporation must have at least 1 active account in it to pay the "licence" to BE a corporation or else their corp is anulled and all characters in that corp are cycled back in to NPC corps. Their stations become scannable loot pinatas for those who are committed and do not require a wardec to destroy.

If you come back 3 years later and find yourself in an NPC corp and with all your **** stolen/destroyed too bad, you weren't paying for the priviledge of your corp.

I like that idea, have it scaled to the size of the corp or the length of time it's been around?

I believe CCP does allow for a short (like 5 hour) access to your account for certain reasons.

So if something like this reason were to be included, they may not even need to get a subscription to maintain claim to their corp name.

I'm mainly interested in reclaming those names from people who've completely lost all interest in EVE and have no known plans on returning.

A better idea would be to have the fee automatically taken from the corp wallet, with a grace period if the wallet doesn't have enough money. That way:
- If you're planning to leave Eve for a while, you can make sure the corp will survive even if your account is unsubscribed.
- Corp members need to be playing (or buying ISK via PLEX) to keep the corp open. Thus the 5 hour access FoxFire Ayderan suggests won't work so well, unless the player puts in effort to gather the money.
- It acts as an ISK sink.
- If you have to leave Eve suddenly (say, a car drives through your house), your friends can still send ISK to the corp to keep it open.

Now, if the corp does fail to pay the fee I wouldn't remove their name until someone else wants it. If the corp pays up, they keep their name. But, while the corp isn't paid up, corp assets in space receive no protection from CONCORD, nor are there any penalties for shooting at it. Maybe have the object take some hull damage each downtime that the corp isn't paid up.

I like the idea. Just make it "bloodier" and more likely to increase conflict and explosions.

I'm right behind you

OK, here's my thoughts:

  • Think more originally for a Corp Name and Ticker!
  • Corps already have to pay Rental Fees for Offices...isn't that enough? Rental expires due to lack of funds all the Corp Assets get locked down and only released if a fee is paid\office is rented in the same station.
  • Time of incorporation should not dictate price if this fee was applied. You'll only drive small active corps out while the big Corps and Alliance will thrive as per usual with any "Charge for everything". If applied (which I hope it isn't) it should be a flat fee.
  • See my first point. There are enough ISK sinks in this game and some of us don't want to log on to start work again just to pay for our "priviledge" of being part of EVE Online and actually operating a Corporation. We pay to play and not pay to play so we can pay to play within the game before we get to play.

These are my thoughts personally.

EDIT #1: And these Rentals fluctuate in price from 10K ISK for an "out of the way no-one wants to rent an office there" to >80mil ISK per month depending on the popularity of the station. You see an ISK sink in there already?

EDIT #2:
And wow, you've been IG for 28 days and you're already trying to screw over old Corps\Corp Members that may be on a break because you couldn't think of a different name for your Corp...play for a little longer and then see how it all fits together. Would you kick your Grandparents out of their home if they weren't there for a month or a year? Shocked

EDIT #3:

And where would all the Corp Assets that are In-Station go? To the CEO's personal hanger? Split evenly amongst the Corp Members? Lots of things to be considered but I for one am certainly not behind this. There are millions of names to come up with...you found one for your Character despite EVE Online being 10 years old...and that's all I have to say for now I guess.

As the only relevant contribution to the discussion I will dissect in one line.

It is a priviledge to own a corporation, a priviledge you obtain by paying a subscription and should you go inactive, the corp licence fee will ensure that you don't unjustifiably inhibit the ability of paying customers to enjoying the game more than you, who is not paying.

The only thing inhibited here is the ability of the OP to think of a different Corp Name\Ticker. Reputations are built on Characters Names and Corporation Names...hence no name changing service.

Actually, I like the idea of incorporating the war dec mechanism into this. War dec the opposing corp, and if you can win the dec over so many weeks with a 'no contest' fortieture, you can claim their POS's, corporation name or ticker, while they get assigned a default one.

This would allow war dec's to have a purpose.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

And then goonswarm ensured every highsec corp ceased to exist.
