Did Sony just headshot DUST 514?

I actually wouldn't mind giving DUST a try, but I'm not about to buy a console just for that. It does seem a bit of an odd decision, when designing a game that's presumably supposed to have an in-depth, lasting relationship with Eve, to develop it for a console. My impression (which could be wrong) is that the console playing demographic is much more likely to play something for a while, then move on to the next thing, not really sticking around with any single game on a long-term basis. I suppose that's partly to do with the fact that consoles have a limited lifespan whereas with a PC, you can just swap around some parts and keep going with the same platform.

I'm not talking about editing posts, I'm talking about a moderator telling me what to post itself. PMing me about it.

Remember the booster club antics? Well, it extended to the forum and what players were posting.

It was b-a-d.

SOE didn't want to hear honest feedback. They wanted to dictate the feedback itself.

EQ2Flames had to exist to combat that amount of control of the "message".

I am surprised many of you are shocked by this news. How many more FPS games move on to the greener pastures that is the console and controller before you accept that a FPS on the PC is a dead market? Blink

Arma3, battlefield, crysis, RO2/RS, TF, PS2, BlackLight, CS:GO and many more argue against the statement of any decay of pc fps or its market.

Go look at FPS sales on a console versus a PC. Post your findings here.

Posting sales figures wouldn't prove or negate my comments made. CoD selling double digit numbers on consoles doesn't suddenly mean pc developing studios jump boats for console exclusive markets. Their will always be a strong market for pc fps regardless of other hardware. I'd argue that instead of fps dying out on pc, more are being developed.

I ask you to find hard evidence and you dismiss it declairing that your personal opinion is all that matters. Lol

step 1: go to steam
step 2: go to top sellers
step 3: look at the top pages!

I would of like to see DUST as a single player/coop comparable to Borderlands on scale based on EVE lore......

Also, FFS targeting mechanics in Metal Gear Solid Sons of Liberty was more accurate than the current build in Dust

I played planetside 1 and recently planetside 2 .. the moment dust was announced and some screens where released the first thing i thought was ' that's a planetside rip off' .

Don't forget that Destiny is on its way too. With it being made by the same people who made Halo, its got good pedigree. All the talk seems to be around it being a MMOFPS on consoles only. It could eat another chunk of Dusts lunch.

To make matters worse, it seems CCP aren't learning. The New First person fighting game they showed at Fanfest. Who wants to guess that as dust gets wound down thats getting wound up. Tied into the Eve Universe in a totally pointless way, again.

I've just *cough* 'found' my original SWG CDs.

I was TKM/Commando back in the day. + 12pt AS/WS

Looks like they've come along quite well since last I was there.

I don't even remember what we *did* back then, but it was never boring, I don't remember ever logging out because I had nothing to do.

I remember flamer throwering (it's a word) krayts looking for pearls.

Group grinding on Dant with a bunch of friends, and BHs rocking up when I was a fresh(ish) Jedi, it was my first PVP as a jedi, and you HAD to fight them because of skill loss. I remember owning those 2 bozos.

Player agency and the meta-game. PS2 is just Battlefield in space, with really big maps.

I played it for a few days and then uninstalled it. Not because PS2 is bad - it's just meh. It's got nothing that other shooters don't already have. It's just scaled up a bit.

That said - PS2 beats Dust hands down in the handling department, and it's more immediately fun.
If CCP can get their act together and fix the atrocious controls in Dust, and - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD - add some color (Seriously - hasn't anyone at CCP gotten the memo that grey and bland environments are stupid and annoying?), then I think Dust stands a chance, and will still be around for Planetside 14.

I wouldn't worry too much about Dust on the PS4 either. Officially, CCP isn't developing anything for the PS4, and the exclusivity for PS3 is set to expire soon. Ergo - slow death on PS3 or PC release.

I think it's funny that people still bring up the KB/M Vs. controller argument. One is not inherently better than the other, it is all about what you practice and play with that matters. Like a hockey player that has played with a right handed stick for all of his life, and then you handed him a left handed stick. He will not be as good left handed as he is right handed, but does that make one stick better than the other?

Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.

Given the range of motion allowed by the mouse alone, not even considering the functional benefit of being many more keys at your other hand's disposal, this is demonstrably false. I have never seen a controller come close to the accuracy of a laser mouse, even optical for that matter.

But yeah, if you think that your thumb is every bit as accurate as your entire arm plus all of your hand and finger stabilizer muscles, then I have no idea what to tell you. Compare with games that don't aim for you and you should be able to tell the difference right away.

Soon on your devblogs: Dust porting to PC!
That or...

If- WHEN dust will crash, CCP will have lost a major investment. That mean they will need a lot of money, fast.
That mean Devs fired (it already happened massively with the nex events), microtransaction panic (NEED MONAY NAW), game simplification panic (NEED PLAYERZ NAW), and/or no expansion before a while, or a combination of the above.

I'm afraid.
Some of these things are already happening.
Some contents is not modified to make the universe better, but to please some parts of the population.
Microtransactions are a past, and they could use the "ship skins" stuffs to sink a little more the sandbox without people complaining too much.
Devs Fired? Already happend once, could happen again.
Seen any true expansion these past years?

Well... Time to abandon ship? Star Citizen anyone?

Tl:dr
CCP cannot afford to lose dust. They invested it the past years of devellopent that didn't go in EvE, and boatload of money.
Losing it now would mean losing it all.
And i don't believe the fps consoler will prefer the "better gameplay" of dust over the popularity of PS2.
Brace yourself for WoW in space.

I do think my thumb is as accurate as everything you described, as when I first started playing FPS on the PC I used a trackball. I still think the trackball is far superior to the mouse, it is hard to find a new trackball I like though with the options that todays mice have packaged with them.

You should join back in! With Publish 3 (Whenever they release that on Bas) bases will finally be added and plenty more of the Points of Interest will be populated accordingly. Never a dull moment, I just hope they eventually bring back the TEF system, that was good fun.
