I just want to point out that FPS games are probably the worst possible games to play on a console. Controllers + real time precision aiming = massive incomprehensible failure. For the love of god, get Planetside on pc. It's worth a worn out laptop keyboard.

I said that to my nephew who's an X-Box nut and he said you get used to it and actually become quite skilled at it. For two players of equal skill, the PC player will always beat the console player though. It's just more intuitive and flexible to have mouse + keyboard combo.

Still, FPS are the most popular genre on consoles, so it must work Ok for people.

Planetside 2 keeps your interest for maybe 2 months, then it's just boring. I played it for a few months, after a while, with no new content, it gets boring. It is a good game though, and has a huge fanbase from Planetside 1 so I forsee dust being a giant waste of money honestly now that Planetside is going console.

I thought about this a bit since my last post and will just include it here, because might as well.

I think that players will be less likely to spend money on a F2P game they think is not "relevant"

While this may seem obvious, it's less obvious in terms of profit projection. Where often times instead of splitting market share, two similar products inexplicably diverge and one 'snowballs' down into the gutter.

It's not just a matter of gameplay, with PS2's popularity I don't see how DUST will be able to compete on the PS4 on a financial level (which has a snowball mechanism all it's own). Because when compared to PS2 an outside gamer will conclude DUST is irrelevant.

CCP will never be able to capture the marketshare and thus the 'relevancy' that PS2 already has, and that means less development dollars.

I think that DUST will continue to be a drain on EVE's development for as long as it exists and that's the only reason I even bother putting it out there.

None of that can really happen. Your weapons get locked if you have too much friendly fire going on, other than that, there's nothing to steal, and spying is kinda pointless.

It was killed in a pretty funny/sad manner, but only because of a severe lack of imagination. WiS can be PvP and Sandbox , CCP failed with that though

Someone mentioned that Sony shot themselves in the foot about another MMO?

EQ2 is still going, I log in every once in a while to train stuff lol.
EQ2 died after Rise of Kunark because of the ******** mechanics for raid encounters. People got fed up with random chance affecting whether or not you'd be able to complete an encounter, or having to be ridiculously over geared for the encounter to win. There was no longer any progression, but reliance of either random chance or out gearing the content and not having any progression...top that off with microtransaction garbage and you had a perfect storm for mass exodus. I have 2 lifetime free station pass accounts so I still log in from time to time, but I have a feeling EQ2 isn't going to get any more influx of people. The other problem was the pure apathy in maintaining the game...they released some stupid dungeon designer so they didn't actually have to release significant new content, just let the players make the content...that's not what the players want...they don't want to develop their game, they want someone to make the game so they can play it.

EQII died because it went to war against the players. EQ2Flames wasn't created because it was just a fansite, it was created for all those who were banned (fully, not just on the forums, permanently banned from the game for disagreeing with SoE's design choices), and a place to expose the trash. You know something is wrong when a fansite about the trash is more popular than the official forums (more park themselves there than the EQII forums).

The backlash was horrid.

You bet SOE didn't like the exposure of their booster club antics or with Aeralik doing what CCP did with BoB.

Antics like that with another choice to play (WoW) was the downfall of EQII.

SOE has improved a lot since then, but not at the time it mattered. It's on life support now (a flagship IP Sony writes off).

I love EQII and will be there on the opening day of EQNext, but hope history doesn't repeat itself.

You have EQ2Flames history all wrong. I was one of the forum moderators they were mad at when they made the site (StrollingWolf), and I happened to be in the little circle of "privleged" players that SOE used for feedback on EQ2 outside of the mainstream forums that the people that founded EQ2Flames came from. EQ2Flames was created because certain individuals threw a fit that players were recruited to be forum mods after one of our own told his buddies that he was a forum mod and who the rest of us were. It was basically internet nerd rage/jealousy and they decided they would be giant trolls in order to get back at SOE for not making them "one of the chosen ones", that and gaige and his buddies were just a bonafied dicks who would stab their friends in the back given the chance.

Funny thing is I was going through some old hard drives a few weeks ago and found all the stuff I saved of all the internal forum moderator board drama and EQ2Flames drama lol. Some funny **** right there.

Ah, no.

If that isn't biased (a EQII moderator claiming, "YOU GOT IT WRONG!!!") when guess who helped ban the players who were protesting?

EQII's moderators can be pretty bad. I remember getting into a fight with one as she tried to control what I was posting -- trying to tell me how to post my content. That type of micromanagement of the "message" is horrid. No other game forum have I been on had the staff trying to control the very content of a player's posts.

Remember the RMT discussions/debates back in 2008? Yeah, that's the time when it got nuts. Support for it was glad-handing players to post what SOE wanted (and I was actually for it...but no, don't tell me how to post to even support it). Sleezy marketing.

No one controls the content of my posts or my viewpoints. Not Blizzard. Not EA. Not CCP...and certainly not SOE. I'm never a paid stooge.

So really do tell the truth, and tell the world what actually goes on and not white wash it.

Although I don't readily approve of Gaige's antics, he did help to expose the rotten core in SOE. The booster club junk and what Aeralik did that was no better than what CCP did with BoB (and CCP got away with it a lot nicer).

The result from the Aeralik fiasco was he was given his walking papers.

Too bad it didn't occur in 2005 when it mattered, and we know the aftermath -- WoW became the #1 MMO.

The allowing of moderators to edit posts was a bad idea and put an end to pretty quickly. Gaige, if you didn't know was a moderator...Let me guess Mawie was editing your posts? lol...she was sort of a ***** anyways...

Gaige acted like a spoiled little teenager about everything. He basically was a troll looking to drum up some sort of drama from day one. It got him off to make other people's lives difficult because he was just that pitiful irl. **** happens I guess. Gaige had no altruism to him what so ever, not a shred. From what I remember what Aeralik did wasn't nearly as bad as the BoB fiasco, although I can't recall the details at the moment, that was a long time ago lol. Gaige's main focus on the forums was to troll people into the ground and make them mad, that's about it.

Not trying to whitewash anything, I was probably the least hated of the forum moderators. I just know what kind of person Gaige was and Ixnay...they both were pathetic fatbeard internet gamers who basically were those kids you knew in high school that would try and bully kids to make themselves feel better about themselves and get approval of their peers...nothing more for the most part. Gaige hated his personal life so much that he decided it would make him feel more of a person to make other people miserable. He's a miserable sob honestly. I used to be friends with him, had some respect for him until he showed his true colors. Add in a few drama queens like that one chick, whom I forget her name but she was Gaige's and Ixnay's pet and a couple others and you got EQ2Flames. It basically came down to "being an ******* is kewl" and is why the whole thing started. Honestly most of them were fairly respected and listened to by SOE until they decided to do some juvenile stupid ****.

I was just having a convo with a friend of mine who is unsubbing from EVE lol, he used to play EQ2 and both of us agree that EQ2 should have been the #1 MMO. SOE fails at marketing and everything else lol, only reason they didn't end up #1 is Blizzard threw more at the marketing of WoW than SOE did for EQ2...there was almost no marketing for EQ2, that and they focused on being too hardcore I think early on. I started about a month after launch. I loved it, but damn it was slow lol.

Arma3, battlefield, crysis, RO2/RS, TF, PS2, BlackLight, CS:GO and many more argue against the statement of any decay of pc fps or its market.

Go look at FPS sales on a console versus a PC. Post your findings here.

Curious if those figures include digital sales on PC.

EDIT: For Example, this game is a mega-flop according to this.

Another example: We all know this game is holding subscription numbers well above any of these figures.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

This. Sony is a lesser evil nowadays but still an evil.

also in regards to Dust vs PS2..

Dust has a level of detail and depth that Planetside 2 couldn't ever hope to achieve. I think Dusts only downfall is if they stay on the PS3 indefinitely. If they launch on the PS4 after Planetside 2 has been around for awhile, I could see that as only beneficial to CCP.

Survive and polish the mechanics as a PS3 title, release and compete against the juggernaut Planetside 2 when the time is right.
