I've always thought mining should be somewhat more dynamic and engaging.. or fun, as some may call it. Not sure spewing asteroids is ideal though, although maybe occasional "spew" fragments of the asteroid breaking up might be an added bonus for the non-afk miner.

This makes much more sense for mining then for exploration because mining actualy is a viable group activity.

But miners will dislike it just as much as explorers. The idea behind the mechanic is good. The big problem is: it's not fun and it feels clunky.

I only tried the mini-game a few times. I didn't really notice a pattern. Can spew looked pretty random to me. When people say there's a method to it, I'm reminded of those experiments on pigeons that show the them developing a kind-of belief system based on something that is actually random.

Yeah, no. Different items go in different can types and it's not even remotely ambiguous.

It also would be cool if every time you buy something off the market whatever you bought is blown out the docking port of the station so you have to undock and play grab ass with everyone else around the station trying to loot your item from a can that will disappear in five seconds. It would sure put an end to people AFK'ing on the market window anyway.


Your mining lasers, my cargo hold, I like this when is it supposed to come out? Lol

OK, after seeing the prototype they proposed at Fanfest(found the video), I think the OP is right...thier ideal isn't so great. Infact it is really rather silly. I was expecting something more. This seems so un-EVE like. At least try to stick to it being somewhat sci-fi'sh and don't turn it into a silly arcade game of from the late 70's(asteroids - really?)

After watching this i can honestly say f*ck no. I would be more keen on making every resource in the game a planetary interaction type harvesting. Something more a long the lines of how SWG handled resource gathering. At the moment mining is easy because it is the wood cutting, mining, plant picking, low man on the totem pole, job. Which also makes it repetitive and rather boring. Would it hurt for mining to be less interactive? Yes it encourages botters. Would it be better to simply make it like PI? Not entirely, but at the same time CCP needs to come up with a better way to track RMT in general.

There are about a million different ways CCP could change mining. Honestly if they made it grav sites only I would be happy. At least it would add some competition like ice is doing. Not turn eve into a casino styled mini game arcade where someone pops in penny after penny for the chance at a rare spawning form of ore.

The biggest issue with eve atm is that it strives to make things interactive that don't really need to be. Player run economies do fine so long as resources change position in a reasonable enough time frame. As such I believe every resource in EVE should change location on a daily, weekly, and monthly, basis depending on the difficulty to set up harvesting operations. Scanning resource locations in SWG worked great and the more time spent gained you more reward. Along with the best locations to place your harvesters. Competition is healthy, risk vs reward is healthy, and most of all being able to make short term investments with manageable work loads is healthy.

If any of these god forsaken, multi box killing, arthritis forming, mind numbing, mechanics, make it into eve. I better get my skill points back from industry, because I will never touch it again.

You should have read a little further down in the thread where CCP Bayesian clearly stated it wont be implemented in mining:

Mara Rinn, there is no intention to move this to mining. This came from a mining prototype that hasn't been taken forward anywhere.

Maybe, but it probably means they need to develop much more advanced bots than we have today. Also, I don't thing they will be 100x as effective. Thats sounds unrealistic. And last, since it wont even be implemented for mining, bots would probably have to be able to scan and do the hacking game too.

The only prototype that looks like it may be fun is the superhuge asteroid minecraft thingy. I am sure that gameplay could be applied to the variety of ideas floating around, like my mining mechanics, asteroid bases, claiming belts/asteroids.
