Is Eve Online at a stage where it can start negotiating with graphic card manufacturers to provide Eve Online official hardware ?

I'm pretty sure a group purchase agreement with ATI or NVIDIA is possible. The potential discounts for members and marketing exposure for NVIDIA or ATI should be a WIN/WIN for everybody .

As each deployment of an Eve expansion seems to push for more graphic processing, establishing an Eve Online 'Expansion' standard for graphics would seem to be a great way to make sure everybody is enjoying the same game.

Eagerly waiting for that Eve-Online Odyssey extreme graphics card :)

ps... make sure the card supports 3 monitors...

Won't happen because some people are too tight on the money side to afford any kind of upgrade it seems.

CCP is already cozy with nVidia. I think it was just last year you could turn 20 PLEX into a GTX550ti or something.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

I'm not sure if there is a big enough playerbase to encourage the manufacturer to make a special edition card. My card is a Crysis 2 edition, a quick google shows 1.22m total sales on that. I think we're at what, 350k or something like that?

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

I'm talking about a discount on a graphic card massive enough to make people want to join EVE-Online and stay on EVE-Online.

You could make the discount conditional to a few months of subscription for example. There's definitely a potential to exploit here ;)

There's a compromise at each end of the deal... Marketing for (NVIDIA or ATI )and Eve-Online is accomplished at the same time.

Tell that to people playing on XP with 8600's, preventing the 80% of the community who actually has DX11 cards and OS's to has DX11 EVE

they did it last year

you could spend plex to buy a nvidia graphics card with a special price

maybe they'll do it again this year.

I hope they do something like that again... or really other stuff too, like perhaps a gaming laptop. I'd pay plex for that.

Maybe in lieu of plex, CCP could do a contest for most mining barge kills wins like a free video card... just a thought

Athough popular those of us with game branded videocards will stick to them.

I usually get the BF3 ATI cards, but this time got the Asus HD 7980 for extra cooling. After that nearly $500 bill, the card is staying where it is!

I went from a custom PC witch had a gtx 680+ 4 gig backplate edition 3000ish cuda cores? To a powerful laptop bottlenecked by an NVIDIA 630m 96 cuda cores. (reminds me of my gtx 280 only dx 11 capable. From what I remember trying to compare the graphic capabilities. The 630m with its 96 cuda cores has trouble drawing the right shadows or light refraction. Not to mention how much it chokes around dust clouds. The gtx680 did not lag no matter how much I pushed it. Im no graphics engineer. But those cuda cores seem to be the magic number in emersion.

I didn't figure anyone actually bought game branded cards, I mean why? its the same exact chip set and video ram as a model that is a $100 cheaper.

Adding to this post (it's 100% correct), that when there were 2 versions of EVE (Light version and Enhanced version, which is what you have now), the pissing and moaning about dropping the dumbed down version was legendary.

So utterly painful that you have two breeds in EVE.

- Those that want to revert back to ASCII art version of EVE
- Those that want to see what their $400 graphics card can do

I'd need to either push the Mrs out of the basement or .. well I actually like the first option so wont bother the kids for desk real estate if I ever got a 3rd monitor lol.

There are good ships,

The playerbase is too small to be able to get any real big deal. If you want game/hardware deals, play valve/EA games or big names like that. They usually offer "free" games with a video card purchase.

I wouldn't buy an ATI Videocard even if someone had some extremely embarrassing leverage on me.

ATI hardware and driver designs have been consistently failing to prove stable for decades. cheap they work but never match the quality assurance of nvidia

Remeber the bricked cards from nvidia something like 2 years agao? Or the thousands of laptop that had to be serviced because of a POS nvidia chip?

Get real, the drivers are just as good on amd side. People need to stop thinking we are still in 1998...
