Odyssey performance decrease on starbase shields and probe spheres

Since relaunching after the Odyssey patch, PoS shields and the spheres around probes have become significantly heavier to run on my system. Unchanged graphics settings (the "optimized for performance" preset).

It's not like the system is particularly game-friendly (onboard graphics + Linux), but the performance dropped with this patch, to the point where probing is causing me to grind my teeth and I dread warping to a PoS. Note: performance was fine before Odyssey.

Short specs: i5-3570 + Intel HD 2500 graphics. 16GB RAM. Kubuntu 13.04 64 bit with Wine 1.5.28.

Further info: CPU use increases when zoomed out from a PoS (which increases performance), goes from 4-5% within the PoS shield to 10-12% zoomed out. I guess that means the process is graphics-bound.

Just a thought but did any of the PoS structures get the V3 rendering treatment?

Hmm, good thought.

Doesn't seem to be the root of the cause, at least. It happens regardless of whether any of the structures are in view - it seems to depend mostly on how big a portion of the screen is covered by bubbles. Sad
