I love the new jump animation and I have no problems with it!
I just think the gate flash feels so weak and disappointing when someone else jumps. It used to look like the gate throw you with everything it had with some umpf in it. Now it looks like its running low on batteries, it doesn't look like other people in space are being thrown through the universe with a violent beam, just a weak glow that faints out. Iam disappointed! But what do you guys think?

Bump for great justice!

Gate flash is far too subtle, and is particularly unnoticable when you're in the middle of fighting someone on the gate. Also there's no longer an audible sound to let you know someone has jumped in. Didn't you guys just make new sounds for gates not that long ago?

They need to fix this. Without flash it feels wrong. (Has this ship just cloaked up or was he jumping? i dont know)

They could make the flash a bit more pronounced, but to be honest I like the fact that the flashing now only goes in the direction toward the destination system rather then shooting out both ends of the gate like its out of control.

All in all, I'd have to say that I disagree that it needs any kind of change. Just like it is with several other new changes, it forces people to actually pay attention instead of remain half asleep, watch youtube or whatever, while just listening for activations. If your gate camp wants to catch something, work for it instead of wait for stuff to fall in your lap.

But CCP have said them self that they want information to be clear and easy to understand (atleast in the UI) and there is nothing in the UI that tells you about when someone jumps in or out. Its up to you to make the best out of all information you get. The gate effect should be a easy to see and hear even if you are not paying 100% attention to it just like red circles flash around targets that are shooting you. I want it to be better in both a visual way and game mechanic vise so you don't make stupid mistakes because the flash is so faint.

While I have to admit that I haven't camped gates that much, I did spend over an hour at different gates yesterday after the patch and found that a simple trick of setting focus on the gate itself, turning the camera so that it shows the "opening" of the gate will allow you to clearly see anything coming through. Sure that makes it difficult for the said person to also act as the decloaker, but in the end all you need is one person to pay attention to the activation itself and inform the rest of the camp in coms that something's coming.

That just tells someone entered local, not where. Might be another gate, cyno, jump bridge, wormhole or just someone logging in there. Not exactly accurate information that something's coming through a specific gate.

Looking at a gate should not be a profession. Its something you can do while doing something else at the same time and anyone should be able to do it. The old effect did just that and it looked good too. Iam not saying CCP should bring the old effect back I just think they can do better and give us some eye candy that can tell you clearly what is going on at the same time.

A reasonable argument for sure, but it's hardly anything game breaking. I wouldn't object to a clearer visual indication of a gate activation, just would prefer that it kept the requirement of actually paying attention to the gate itself in game rather than some adult site or youtube. Too much stuff is being spoon fed as free intel anyway.

edit: and would the minecraft players dropping be a bad thing? If I can't be arsed to pay attention to a game, I close it and do something that doesn't bore me so much that I want to alt tab out of it.
