Hello :)

So I am only a few days old, but have decided to start me eve career off as a trader , I have read some stickies and guides on trading in eve, but am hoping to get some advice from the more hardened traders if possible.

I am currently using region wide buy orders, focussing on items which I can buy and then sell of for at least 60% profit, obviously my available funds are a bit on the low side at the moment so I am only buying the smaller bits and pieces currently.

My main question is, when my buy orders get filled, should I put the item back up for sale in the station it was bought at, or should I start collecting everything and hauling it to a hub? I am interested in peoples views on the trade off between the time taken to collect everything, vs just putting things up for sale and going for a longer term strategy of having lots for sale in lots of places.

tl;dr Should I sell all my stuff in one or two stations, or have it spread over the region?

Many thanks for any advice

It really depends on what items you are buying. There are so many things you could buy that have different markets that it's not realistic to try and give you a simple set of rules on what to do with the items you buy.

When I started trading on an alt I did try region buys and while it has a good markup, mainly due to the inconvenience of collecting and moving stuff, you do run into this qustion.

If e.g. you were buying low level learning implants you are probably going to be getting them in or near mission hubs, though not all storyline agents are in a mission hub. But you would probably be better moving them to a trade hub to sell them as the people selling and the people buying are (most likely) going to be different.

So if you look at it that way, you would focus on the item and who the most likely buyers are going to be. Some of that might be "commonsense", some of it may be counterintuitive and you just need to try stuff and see what works.

If you are getting large stacks in a few places you might haul the stuff yourself or contract the hauling out. OTOH if you are getting small stacks scattered over a wide area you may want to sell inplace. So many variables :)

Edit : buying region wide to repro is another different market and can work well if you pick the right items.

Another weekend only player here:
I usually sell close but not directly at my home station where many other traders sell. And I count on the customer's lazyness not to jump around just for a few ISk saved. So I do not have to go too low with my prices. It may take some time but usually within max 36 hours everything is gone, mostly close to the regional/ NPC manufacturer's prices.

It depends on what it is. If it is ships, then you can almost always leave them in the same place. If it is something like minerals, then you'll likely need to move them. Building up a stock in one place, to make it worth while to move, only takes a few clicks of the mouse. When you place your buy order, do a minimum amount, other wise you'll end up with little piles of stuff all over the place that will never be worth your time. If that happens, wait till someone else comes along with a regional buy order higher than yours, that did not do a minimum, and dump it all on that poor sap.

Modules ... sometimes they will move in far out of the way places, but they tend to require being under priced in order to do that and you may have to wait a while if it happens to be low sec, unless they are high meta, then the undercut doesn't need to be as small.

Ammo, if it is a mission hub, leave it there, if not, move it to a hub.

You will notice, that you only have so many buy/sell orders you can do. So you need to consider that as well.
