I guess the reason I feel no compensation is necessary is my perspective.

Think of a bunch of kids waiting for a bus to go to a movie, same bus stop is a Old Lady doing the same thing, out of nowhere a mugger comes and steals her purse and beats her unconscious the Police and Paramedics arrive blocking the bus stop to attend to her wound and deal with this travesty. The kids miss their bus, then demand the Old Lady pay them for the inconvenience.

Guess I would solve this by stealing their Movie money and beating them unconscious, but in EVE all I can do is shake my head and post my disbelief of the current culture.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

Free stuff is good.

I want my free stuff.

Preferably before I go inactive YET AGAIN.

Ridiculous analogy, Does kids don't deserve to see a movie just watching that happen to an old women.
And in fairness it was most likely the kid that mugged her!

any how here's one for you.

You go to a fast food joint, you pay for you food and while waiting for it the power goes out. You get no food, but by your standard you shouldn't get your money back?

Ridiculous and pointless we can throw out analogy's all day, but the point remains, service paid for, service not received.

What ever the reason for no service the bare minimum of compensation is to have your account time extended by the length of unexpected down time. Although it's most like hidden in the EULA that they don't have to compensate you, it would be a kind gesture o the part of CCP.

But still does not give people the right to DEMAND anything one way or the other.

What we can now confirm is that a person was able to utilize a vulnerability in one of the back-end services that support the operation of the Tranquility server. This vulnerability has now been secured and thoroughly tested. - CCP Spielmann

We will be looking at ways to compensate players in both EVE and DUST for the outage and expect to announce what that compensation will be very soon. - CCP Spielmann

Was the downtime CCP’s fault? No, not really.

CCP don’t have to compensate but in this case they have acknowledged a vulnerability was taken advantage of that has now been fixed and have stated they will compensate in some way that is to be determined.

They don’t have to do this, but the choice CCP have taken to do so is just good customer service.

If they credit your account with an extra day or so of game time and you don’t like it then log off for the day. If they credit you some lost SP and you don’t like it then ignore the SP or put them into a skill you will never use.

Since when did an act of good faith by a service provider to their customers become a problem?

Poor analogy since the kids are not paying the old lady for a service and the old lady is not selling a service. Furthermore your analogy tries to make everyone that is looking for free sp like they have no empathy. In reality its more like your Isp went down for a day, there is almost a guarantee that some form of compensation would be given, from credits to the account to free upgrades, etc.

I could care less either way really.

What if CCP inadvertently provides the DDoSing party compensation?

Assuming it was someone within EVE.

not entirely true. it costs man hours, which cost wages. on top of that if the compensation is 24hrs game time, that's revenue they're not getting from subscriptions etc.

nothing in this world is free, ever.

Tiny cost or happy customers, tiny cost or happy customers.....

Dealing with angry customers isnt free either.

i don't really see why people are that unhappy, you couldn't play for a few hours on the weekend. if that sort of thing upsets you that much i think you need to take a long hard look at your life.

I don't get why we should show some sort of special consideration for CCP when they **** up. They have already said that they will compensate us, so why should we turn them down?
