The expansions have always been free, as you can't play the game without them. Some people call them "glorified patches", and I wouldn't say that at all, but the fact that they're compulsory means it'd be a bit dickish to charge.


Put it this way, I pay to play so it isn't free.

If CCP were to stop improving/maintaining EVE then they will no longer get my money. They keep improving it so they continue to get my money.

As far as compensation goes, I would have earned isks and enjoyed an evening playing the game. Unfortunately this didn't happen despite the fact that I paid CCP for game time.

Doesn't matter who's fault it is that it didn't happen.

I'm not sure that free s.p. for everyone would make up for this but I'll gratefully apply any that come my way.

I just think it's sad that CCP is the victim in this case just as much as we the players are. CCP will wind up paying twice or more for the attack, bandwidth like they use keeps billing them, the techs brought in to stop the attack cant be cheap, the reputation damage is like terrorism etc.

I wish the focus was on the attackers rather than CCP , we each were personally attacked and need to keep our eye on the ball.

I missed valuable (to me) game time because my work hours are hellacious and I squeeze in what I can to play with a narrow window to do so. It would be nice to see the perpetrators caught and prosecuted.

Demanding over 9000 Sp right now as compensation for this outrage , how DARE ccp be victim of a ddos attack ?!

While it's true that CCP really is the victim here, being a legitimate business that was attacked maliciously and we as a playerbase are only receiving the side effects of such an act we are still paying customers. We pay for a service. While they don't have to compensate us for time unable to enjoy said service, they're offering. It's a nice gesture, considering the money some of us put into this game.

It would be illogical to turn down compensation (whether it was due or not) for services rendered if it costs neither party any form of currency to do so. CCP is, as usual, being nice in this situation. Accept it.

That said, +1 to the OP. I'd like 500k SP, please. :)

How about a free remap. People are always banging on how much they would love a free remap, and we just had free SP already. Or what about a choice like we had in previous gifts. Perhaps a full set of implants, a selection of skill books, and that kind of thing.

Also to those saying CCP doesn't need to give compensation. Giving players in game items is actually not particularly detrimental to CCP at all. A free remap for example wont effect them in the slightest. The only thing that would hurt them is giving away free game time or PLEX.

It's the kind of "free expansion" that you pay for over the previous 6 months. Apart from that it's completely free.

(Not saying this is a bad thing, just pointing out the obvious).

500k is a tad over compensating.

A day delay is enough, as the clock was stopped (even long queued skills were affected).

In EvE you're paying for clock time. When the clock is affected, that's when you ask for comp time.

Suggestion: allow for updating queues via account management (and CCP needs an off site server always ready for things like this. When Blizzard has their Tech Tuesday shut down of all realms, Blizzard doesn't go totally dark). Word up!
