Do what we did in nullsec, since you dont have to worry about getting 30 bombs dropped on your fleet by a blops gang or getting dropped on by supers this should work. Get some friends (this is key) train up t2 drones and fit a decent buffer tank, if you're jetcanning you dont need 10km3 of cargo space, and when they poke you, send out your drones, the tank + drones + concord should be able to deal with em. Or just stick to mining in 1.0 space. That will MINIMIZE your risk. Most gankers will have someone scan your ship to check your tank, if its a decent tank they'll find a weaker target, if you have drones orbiting they'll stay away for the most part. But if someone wants to kill you they WILL kill you. That's EVE.

I can tell you now that your suggestions will most likely never be implemented, EVE was not designed to be another theme park MMO where you can log on and safely plug away with no fear of unintentional and unwanted PVP. This is a sandbox, every action has a reaction and a consequence.

very true eloquent straight forward post! although i have to admit there are many people who would like such a game style ( to some degree, in some part of space maybe). CCP might do good to pamper those players. and it wouldnt hurt anyone.

to the consequences you speak of: actually the completely static nature of the sandbox makes me feel there is no consequence to what i do in eve. not even an epic ark changes anything or triggers something in the universe. and we cant destroy NPC stations. lol. you can gank and rat, and gank and rat and still concord will not notice you are a ganker after all and still let you enter highsec... oh well...

I have to contest these points you have brought up.

Yes there are people who would love to see some form of total security in high-sec. Thankfully, that is not the vision that the creators at CCP share, well... that's my opinion based on what I've seen and read about CCP's vision for EVE over the years.

There is always a consequence, although it may not be immediately obvious. For example;

Let's say your mining and you get ganked by a pirate/griefer. Fortunately you're a rich miner and you can accept the loss of your trusty hulk, yes it's sad to see it go, but hey, you can afford another hundred of those!

As well as replacing your hulk you decide that you want to teach this griefer a lesson, so you decide to dispense some justice in the form of paying a mercenary organisation to lay waste to his fledgling privateer corp. They do just that, as a result of this his corp disbands and they all go on to join other organisations. Not to mention a few of his members decide to leave the ways of the griefer behind them - all because you wanted to take action.

Not only have you got revenge, the mercs got paid and had some fun, the future victims of the griefers ex-corporation are truly thankful someone crushed them before they lost their hulks to his devious tactics.

Do you see where this is going?

There are consequences beyond sec status hits. Which brings me to standings and security status...

It is very easy to drop your sec status and hit outlaw status, it only takes a few dozen ship kills and even less pod kills and the griefers can no longer enter high-sec at all. I can tell you now that it takes a lot of ratting in 0.0 to bring that sec status back up to amicable levels. So, this shouldn't be so flippantly dismissed as you did.

EVE is the biggest sandbox MMO ever. Nothing else even comes close. You just can't see that yet. Give it time..

I know from experience that a hulk can actually put up a good sustained tank if fitted right. Combine this with high resistances and you should be able to tank anything that would cost less than your ship and fittings. I managed to laugh at an arty cynnabl once, since he sat too far away to scram me and thought he could alpha my hulk.

said tank wont do you much good vs 20+ thrashers part of the suicide gank issue is the gankers being able to fit cheap as hell ships out and insure them and swarm/gank even a well tanked hulk, maybe having the insurance payable on suicide gankers to the ganked might help some because it increases the costs associated with highsec ganking might be one idea the rest erm...

hulks shouldnt even be allowed in highsec, just like capitals are not allowed to be in highsec (or at least aggres =p)

They are the highest level mining ship in the game, and as such they should be used by the most skilled, to mine the best quality ores. a hulk was not made to sit there crunching on cruddy c.veld all day

But how does this solve the problem you ask?

Good question! Well, you see now that all the highly skilled hulk pilots are in 0.0 where they should be, they are protected by an alliance, have scouts, intel channels, and are alert. They earn more isk for their time, and have increased security, and no losses

This also leaves the remaining highsec targets unvaluable and pointless to suicide

You should see how many carebears are in TEST Alliance, all tehy do is mission and mine deep in a pocket of 0.0 where nobody bothers them, and they have 10+ systems of warning before anything even shows up in their mining system

Log out/log in/cyno trick gets around the 10+ systems of warning. Nobody except anyone that hates your alliance, which for TEST is everybody. There are no deep pocket systems that are not camped almost constantly. All you can do is run when they do show up since putting a tank on the mining ship means less income.

Alliances protecting mining fleets is a myth. They give no f**ks about mining. Corp tax on all professions, including cloaky scouts providing intel, may be the only way to make ratting less important to alliances. Must be automatic income and tax on said income, preventing human error/corruption possibilities.

Lets not "fix" whats not broken. If you want to be safe go play WoW. Eve is a place that people can do what they want. You want to take it all away so you can mine safe.

Just posting a thread like this on the forums is going to make people come after you. I would advise letting this thread die before too many people see it.

Enjoy your mining.

the essence is, there is currently not really a counter to ganking / high alpha, you can only fit a larger buffer yourself to survive longer. remote repping / current logistics do not protect you against high alpha.

i propose adding remote resist to counter high alpha.
