People THINK they are getting SPs for nothing.

They aren't.

The new skills simply complicate the already SP heavy skill system further by tuning two skills into 8.

Some love it, some hate it.

I totally dont care but there you are.

I know it's not ''bonus'' SP per say. It's just your total SP adjusted for the new skill tree layout. We also don't get to choose where those SP go, they are all going toward making us fly what we can already fly come the 4th of june. Roll

Yeah I know :) sorry, its been a long day and I didnt bother reading the actual post lol.

Concord we are go for giving me *(%#*( more SP to increase my clone costs without changing what ships I can fly Roll

The part I don't get is the lack of consistency. CCP decides they must split up BC and DD skills, but says nothing about Interceptor or Assault Frigate or Covert Ops, which are all just as generic.

I thought we were doing this in the name of consistency?

It is consistent. T1 hull skills are race-specific; T2 role skills are not.

But... arent those skills reliant on Racial Frigate anyway?

What I mean is... yes DD and BC were reliant on Frigate in a similar way, but those skills already require a heafty amount of support skills.

Now, I aint no fancy pants big city lawyer, but it occurs to me that folks may not be keen on learning 3 additional skills to five.

However, I think you are probably right and I think they will, with continued tweaking, probably keep splitting skills until my skill list is just a garbled mess of squares and words.

I've been out of the game for two years, having just recently returned to find this happening. So that's my reason, albeit not an excuse (I knew I was coming back, eventually, and I don't have to pay a monthly sub to keep up to date).

At any rate, I've read the expansion details, the Dev blogs, etc. and I understand what they're doing. Well, I understand at least the part that says "If I can fly it before the change, I can fly it after the change.". Where I got lost is what exactly this means for me insofar as my skill points are concerned.

When this goes live which of the following scenarios is happening:

A) My current skill points, as they relate to ships, are being chopped up, moved around, and reassigned automatically by the system to bring my skill points in line with the new scheme. There's nothing I can do about this and where my skill points end up is out of my hands.

B) I'm going to end up with a pool of unallocated points that I can feel free to screw myself with by putting them wherever my ill-informed mind chooses?

C) Something else entirely that I'm far too out of the loop to understand at this time?

I appreciate the feedback.

Cheers.

It means exactly what it says and nothing else. People like to talk about skill points because they think SP matter, when in reality, they aren't a factor in this change-over.

If you could fly any kind of destroyer or battlecruiser before at a given skill level, you will be able to fly that same destroyer or BC at the exact same skill level. All that's happening is that there is no longer a cross-racial dessy or BC skill, but rather one for each race. Your old skill(s) will be translated to their equivalents under the new scheme.

This may lead you to have more total SP and thus a more expensive clone, but that's about it. There is a very specific edge-case scenario where you might end up with reassignable SP, but you'd have to have been a pretty clumsy player to get into that state.

I made my character in January 2013, and then quit playing for a few months, but have still managed to get BC 5 and all racial skills. I also have Destroyer 4 which is nifty.

This skill change was very convenient for me because I want to be able to fly every race's ships effectively one day, and thi so I've been spared quite abit of time.

The only thing I don't like about the skill change is that i will probably punish new players who want to cross train. After the change it will probably take like 3 months (or more) to train BC 5 for every race, unless they plan to cut the training time for the skills (I hope they do, so other players still have the option to crosstrain).

I was wondering if anyone elses training will be making it just in time to get the most out of the SP adjustment when the 4th of June expansion rolls around? I'm currently on destroyer 5 which will be done on monday at 4PM with just enough time a few frigate levels before DT. I missed out on the BC 5 but that ok, I'll get it later. So, what about you?

I trained Battlecruisers 5 in 2008. I didn't want to take any chances ya know.

all but one of my alts will be done in time, who will be like... 10 hours or so shy of destroyers V, which will mean ~2 days after the patch to finish destroyers V if i bother. which i doubt, since it's an orca pilot.
