Hi there,

I recently purchased a Surface Pro 128 and cannot get EVE Online to work on it.
I started off by copying my install directory across to the Surface from my PC and then run the EVE Online Repair Tool. Patched up and launched the game.

When I login, instead of showing the screen with my 3 characters the screen is just black.
I have tried updating DirectX and .NET framework. I have updated to the latest firmware through windows update.

I tried searching the forums for this problem but cannot find anything.

Has anyone got any ideas to help with this problem?

The graphics chip inside the surface pro isn't really meant to be a gaming chip. It can do light gaming but on games like EVE it will fall flat and be unable to run it unless at the lowest settings. (if that)

Thank you for your input. I have seen many YouTube videos of people with the exact hardware as I have playing this game. I am aware of the settings I will need to use to play the game.

This however does not help with my problem

Indeed it can run it but unless you are station trading or something it won't perform well under stress. But that's your call. Smile

My thinking is that by copying your install directly from your PC, some settings won't work on the surface pro. Have you tried clearing the cache outside of the game? http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Clearing_the_cache_and_settings

If that doesn't work, you can try clearing the settings as well.

While we do not yet officially support Windows 8, we would be interested in hearing about any problems that Windows 8 users have encountered when running EVE Online.

Ideally we would only like to hear of any issues that became a problem when players switched from another OS to Windows 8. This would mean that we can be sure that Windows 8 was the problem.

If you can post in this thread a summary of the issue and also a brief overview of your system specifications (Graphics card, driver version etc) it really would be appreciated.

This could also be related and even more of an issue considering your trying to play on a tablet.

I have decided to reset the device to factory settings and download from the site rather than copy from my pc. I'll let you know if that fixes the problem.

Well, I started from a clean install and re-downloaded the client. All is working fine now.
Performance wise a few settings have been turned down, but am getting solid fps and is very playable in this ultrabook style hybrid tablet thing. The Surface Pro is playable with the digital pen and touch screen if you don't have a mouse handy.

Very cool... EVE on a tablet. Kind of want to try that :)

It's running just swell for me--actually, it appears to be running smoother/cooler on my Surface Pro (64GB--I moved my backup partition to an 8GB USB thumb drive) than on my 17" MacBook Pro (the last 17" they made, with a 2.66GHz Core i7 and 8GB RAM.......). I don't understand how this is the case, but it certainly appears to be.

I run lowest settings on both, and never experience any hiccups. Maybe some *slight* lag around clouds, but that's it.

My only real gripes about running EVE on the Surface Pro are the scaling of the screen and mouse functionality (which seems to be directly related to screen scaling).

I've read others' posts about the mouse pointer only having access to ~80% of the screen ("dead zone" bars on right and bottom), but I've found that the following settings largely remedy these issues:

Full Screen
1920 x 1080
100% UI Scaling

Anyway, just thought I'd share my specs, since I have yet to see a comprehensive explanation of a (more than not) optimal setting in the forums.
