It's perfectly fine to dislike an expansion. Different strokes, and all that.

The problem with the OP isn't that they dislike the expansion, but rather that their stated reason for disliking it - that the only thing it does is adjust the scanning system - is completely, utterly bullshit, and so obviously factually incorrect that the OP is, frankly, lying. That's the only word for it.

There's also:

-Tags4Sec
-A rebalance of a ton of mats - High end ores, Ice, and moon minerals.
-POS management improvements
-A metric asston of ship rebalancing
-Navy battlecruisers!
-An assortment of module rebalances
-Capital rigs
-Skill changes/tiericide
-Bunch of visual changes
-Pretty sure I saw something about some performance enhancements, as well.

And this isn't even kindasorta an exhaustive list.

Kinda reminds about possibly trying to join ISD again.....hmmm

But having been here almost 5 years and reading almost every dev blog I can get my mits on I think I have a fairly decent idea of how CCP works.

For each expansion just go down the check lists:

Graphics? Jump Effects and the V3ed capitals we got in 1.2 and new Apoc
UI? Radial Menu and updated visual styles on virtually every window that didnt already have them, new undock system
Feature Change/Redesign/New?

  • Scanning (Probes, system scanner, modules, skill changes)
  • Exploration (Redone sites, new loot mechanic, hacking mini game)
  • POS (hanger access, new modules, usability)
  • Security for Tags (new market, new NPCs)
  • Industry (Mineral content of ore, ice distribution, tweaks on moon goo)
  • Skills (Total revamp of the skill tree progression)
  • Double Training for PLEX
  • Revamped Outpost facilities

Rebalance? Absolute **** ton of ship changes and some modules changes too
New Ships? Navy BCs

probably a few things I missed too xD

They're doing a hell of a lot of iteration and dare I say this looks to be a damn decent expansion to industry

We're simply getting what we asked for from the Incarna Summer of Rage, but winter is shaping up to have some awesome potential as one by one CCP is knocking down the the rusty locks to the gate of awesome xD

To be fair, friend. You're getting a lot more than you pay for with the expansion.

You (CCP) have tweaked the scanning system and changed the way it works slightly and are selling this as an expansion.

Does anyone else feel the same way as me after each supposed expansion - utterly dejected and depressed with the progress this game is making. When are CCP going to actually move the game on a bit ie open that station cabin door for our avatar.

There was a brilliant post about a prototype exploration game made in Unity engine that CCP had been protyping. You actually got out of your ship and explored the site, other players could come and hunt you. It was FPS love in space. Where is that? We get a few changes to exploration and call it an expansion.

Oh and you add some new system travel animation....

Man this is the only game that is worth playing at the moment but you guys really need to grow a pair and release something more than tweaks.

Please hurry the **** up CCP.

Google 'Dust 514'...it's a pretty cool FPS that CCP is actively working to link to Eve! It brings new gameplay as well as cross-platform interaction! Personally I think that is a better way of 'moving the game forward' than creating a whole new set of skills that need to be learned with 6 months of training time so you can get out of your ship and stab someone! The path you are going down leads to a large number of mini games within eve making the barrier to entry for new players even higher than it already is!

No, I am volunteering because I don't want to even look at my avatar. As far as I am concerned that thing can stay in its steel coffin forever, I am playing this game for space ships, if I wanted avatar combat I would be playing another MMO.

Or haven't even played yet, for that matter.

And hey - there's always DUST, Mass Effect and WoW . But not for me.

I like FPS and I like eve. I do not however, long for the creators of Battlefield to spend their precious time developing a capitalist sandbox style space pilot simulator game which is accessed as a small mini-game through the door into one of the buildings on Kharg island.

There's so much content in the game that is at about 10% of the potential it could have. Re-balancing expansions are much more game changing than just new ships or whatever.

Posts like this remind me of people who ***** and moan about League of Legends Champion IP costs being too high and whatnot despite the entire game being free and the game giving you the ability to acquire all champions without ever spending a single penny. Such entitlement in this generation.

Is the "expansion" everything you personally wanted? No, however it is improvement, content and it's FREE.

CCP isn't a huge company, they aren't going to crank out masive WoW style expansions. The word expansion is used loosely here, it's more of just a mega patch/version upgrade sometimes but hey, it's keeping the game alive.

I'll see you next expansion.

Got out of your ship? Pray do tell what would ever posses me, a capsuleer, leave my precious pod that allows me full control of my ship. Go outside of the 6 to 20 meters of titanium hull that separates my pod and the hard vacuum, and leave the protection of my Blaster Cannons just so Dust Bunny can come and hunt me down?

Come on, have you not been here for the Jita riots? We do not want Avatar exploration, we dont want to run around on foot hopping nimbly bimbly from platform to platform. What we want is spaceships, that is why we are playing this game and CCP is providing plenty of changes to exiting Battlehships and Skills in order to make access and use of said spaceships different for a while after the release of Odessey. Plus its a free freaking expansion, say thank you to CCP that you dont have to pay 30 bucks to play a race of space pandas.

While I agree that the expansion looks quite fully featured, I have to say that you have literally no idea what the Jita riots were about.

$15 every month, or $30 in my case. The vast majority of what CCP calls an "expansion" is what another developer would call Random Balance Patch v1.27

And how often do other MMO's put out "real expansions"?

Once a year? Little over a year?

How often does CCP release their "expansions"? Hmm?

Your $15($30) does not make you any more special or more entitled than anyone else.

I remember the first couple MMO's didn't have expansions for like...2 years. No one complained. Too busy playing.

I've been here for nearly 10 years and I can say that people whined because CCP put new stuff on expansions, people whined because CCP mostly fixed stuff on expansions and people whined because CCP fixed old stuff AND put new stuff on expansions.
hell, people even whined CCP did expansions and people whined CCP didn't do enough expansions and patches!

so, from experience I can say that people here whine every time CCP does anything and/or nothing at all.

I remember seeing a diagram back in the day in which CCP described their expansion philosophy.

Something where summer was for smaller stuff, winter was for bigger stuff.

So maybe they're just following that design plan?

no, really. CCP will always get fire for anything they change/don't change in a patch.

hell I can promise you that, if CCP released an expansion that only said "we're going to change the apocalypse name to Apocalypse", people would complain about that.

Given that ccp nearly killed eve by rushing content out for each expansion without doing anything with the core game you can probably forgive them for trying to fix the game before taking a new direction. Hopefully that direction will involve spaceships and not barbie online though.
