Can't Seem To Get Into It

I've been playing for a few days so far, and the learning curve is quite steep. I want to play, and I'm interested in playing but when I'm actually playing the game feels boring.

I want to work towards doing PvP, but I'm not sure how interesting it can be with the way the game plays. It almost feels like a glorified (don't hate me for this) facebook game because of how menu based it feels. Is it just me though?

Perhaps the game just isn't for me.

I think everyone feels like that when they first start. I know I did. It takes a while to really get into the game - at first, you are unsure of what to do, simply because the game doesn't hold your hand like most others. The best thing you can do is participate in a corp, even if it is the starter corp you are in. Just chatting and having fun with the people in it makes the game a lot better.

As far as skills go, realize that it will take months to really get anywhere. If you aren't prepared to accept this then yes, EVE may not be the game for you. Since you want to get into PvP you can either do it now in the starter frigs and/or run missions and train up your skills more. Also, keep in mind that there are many other things to do - exploration, mining, trading, pirating (if that's your MO), faction warfare, manufacturing, and probably other things I can't think of right now.

My advice to you is to give the game a chance. A few days isn't enough to really get EVE.

Maturity, one discovers, has everything to do with the acceptance of not knowing. http://www.di.fm/spacemusic

I do agree that it's hard to get into the game because of the steep learning curve. This is my third trial account but I think I'm ready to subscribe for three months after getting the hang of things. I'm finding YouTube videos most helpful and getting into the game.

The potential for things like this await you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLqb-m1ZZUA

Wait until you get your first adrenaline rush from PVP, nothing like it in the gaming world.

join a corp, this game doesn't work if you play it alone.

It does for me, and for plenty of others judging by forum posts and survey results.

What you mean is that it doesn't work for you - so say it like that.

Joining a corp being on comms chatting, learning, shooting the breeze makes the game more fun no matter what you do or ship you fly. Yes there are a lot of menus, but its better and worse then it used to be. If you can be patient, willing to roll with the punches, and willing to work for results you will go far. If your not you may be better off playing wow, or gw2.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Thanks for all the responses!

Are there benefits to joining a corporation besides being social and having people to do things with? Obviously, this is an MMO and I do like playing WITH people, but I've just come from playing SWTOR with a guild that I played with every night for several months. Therefore, I want a bit of a breather on the social part as ironic as that is for an MMO.

Looks like it's something I'm going to have to do though and just jump in head first, but I have a couple more questions.

As for people playing alone, how do you find it? What's your favourite things to do?

For the guys in corps, what's your favourite group content?

Partially agree with Oraac. You can have fun alone and without a corp.

But certain things will be very hard to get into, PvP is one of them, specially as a new player.
I also do agreee with Tsukino, being in a corp (or at least have a group of people you know and do stuff together with) helps a lot to "Get into the game".

And if you are looking for a corporation, here is agood guide:

Certain things can only be done while in a player corp (or alliance), for instance:

Setting up a POS (It's a corporate thing)
Claiming SOV in null-sec (it's an alliance thing).

Then there is of course the common, we are part of a team, one for all and all for one type of stuff.
Because you are in a corp, if it's the correct one, you will feel part of the team and thus will help each other out and/or do certain things together.

What I like about being in a corporation:

* Community (so having a chat with each other on comms, share chat channels, exchange ideas and information)
* Team based operations (ranging from mining together - mining with a group isn't that bad if it includes alcohol and a laugh, mission running together but most of all...PvP together)

What can be the downsides of being in a corporation:

* Wardecs - If you're a PvP guy, you won't mind them at all. but miners and mission runners aren't too happy with them.
* Politics - Specially in null-sec, but also there in Empire. Politics can be a pain in the ass.
* Mandatory stuff - Some corps will require you to be online "x" hours a week/month or make you train in certain ships.

Keep in mind that those downsides are just examples and that not every corp in EVE has those.
