Hi TravelBuoy, just to add my name here. I had no problems until yesterday (25/5/13). If I left the game for a while, I'd come back to a darkened screen with a dialogue box from EVE telling me the 'socket had closed' (similar). This happened more and more frequently, until even if I left the PC for 5 minutes, I'd come back and find my internet connection kicked. It hasn't done this while I'm typing this post, so it must be reacting to inactivity. I'm a beginner, about to start a session in the Exploration Career Tutorial Arc. Even though I suspect inactivity to be the trigger, I don't want to risk this happening in the middle of my Tutorial!

TravelBuoy,

By any chance, do you have any other MMO's installed? Or maybe League of Legends? If you do, look in your installed Programs section for "Pando Media Booster" and uninstall it.

I had this exact issue. Login, play for 1-2 minutes, then "Socket Closed." Found out my ISP was not liking PMB running so many open connections at once.

Uninstall PMB.

Hi Xedeus, thanks for your contribution. I have so far had about 7 hours of gameplay without problems. This included times when I left my PC idle and logged into EVE.

I went through the list of installed programs I have and came across 2 which have caused problems in the past. One is a rubbish piece of anti-malware always-on freebie. The other is nVidia's beta program GeForce Experience. I uninstalled them both and so far, no problems. I agree with you that it was probably a conflict over connection priorities, with EVE being kicked whenever the rogue program requested access. Or something like that...

Anyway, all's well at the moment. Thanks again.

I'm having this problem as well..tried disabling AV, turned off PunkBuster and nothing seems to be working. Seems to be happening pretty much the moment I log on :/

Its not you, its CCP they rather make stupid free ships and shove untested buggy launchers down your throat than to at least try to fix a problem that's been around for years.....ONLY EVE has this problem on my end.

There are many threads about this but theyre not gonna do anything to help it cause they dont want to or have no clue.

Heres another thread which might help you.
