True Solo PvP....Does it really happen?

This is not really a solo game, sure you can force fit, but you won't be happy. The game is not balanced around 1v1.

The very first step to fun PvP in this game is join a corp. Period.

This is maximum bull ****. Period. There is no "right" way to play the game, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is an ignorant knob.

I really recommend FW if solo pvp is your thing. U will get a lot of 1v1 fights. And quite often u can get winnable 1vMany when blob of random man from enemy militia (who happened to be in same system but arent organized fleet) try to take you down.

Its also cheap cuz most ppl fly in frigs, destroyers and cruisers. And with plex mechanics (size limitations) u can saftly 1v1 other frig with entire enemy fleet of destroyers and cruizers in system cuz they simply cant get to you.

This post shows one thing...dont listen to the guy.

1v1 is a very viable option.
Playing solo is too. But the whole solo vs group discussion can be dumbed down to 1 single fact: PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

And I know this because Oraac and I had that discussion in the past.

One other thing to bear in mind: a good portion of any engagement is psychological. You can have two players with roughly equal skills in nearly identical fits, but they may have different priorities.

Case in point: Merlin in a FW plex vs. a Merlin entering the plex. The ship in the plex has decided advantages; it knows where the attacker is going to land, it can position itself at optimal range, prime its tackle and guns, and be ready to engage in moments. The attacker must be prepared for an adverse tactical position, and be ready to lose propulsion boosts and/or gun range, depending on the unknown fit of the defender.

But if the attacking ship is aggressive, determined to engage, and the defending ship has a survival-at-all-costs mindset, then the attacker can prevail without firing a shot.

(Note: this actually happened to me the other day. I was the one entering a plex being run down by a Gallente in a Merlin like mine. I charged, he ran, and I ended up holding the plex. No shots fired, no wreck, no killboard stats, but I chalked it up as a 1v1 win.)

Wise words.

I would also add that you need to have a pretty "no guts, no glory" attitude to it. If you overestimate the opponent by default, you'll hesitate and miss fights or weaken your attack, etc. That's not to say that you should throw caution to the wind completely, but there's been a few times I've been reticent about engaging something because of what ship they are in, or assuming backup to be close by/on grid, and when it's come down to it they've been terribly fit and weren't a bait ship after all.

Solo cruisers can be a lot of fun in null. In lowsec not so much.

Your main targets will usually be frigs though.

There's two things that have been described to me with a straight face as solo.

The first is ballsy one account pvp as promulgated by kil2, prometheus, people like that.

The second is t3 boosting alt dual box nonsense.

I like when someone thinks that because someone has the second they will always beat the first.....very not true. It's just another challenge for a guy who wants one. Identify the booster, determine which boosts, rock - paper - profit.

I don't have a booster alt but the complaints from the soloist wanna-bes are nonsense. Even if CCP removed boosts from the game 99.9% of you would still be unsuccessful at soloing because you are looking for the excuse to loose. Use your brain not your ship.

If you are insinuating I have said as much, I have not. Merely pointing out that the latter is not solo.

Sure it is...falcon alts aren't solo. If I spend billions on implants and faction mods to boost my ship waaaaay beyond what your average players will buy would I be cheating? OGBs are just the next step in what you are willing to pay to take things to the next level. If you want to compete with someone using them figure out a way to deal with it becasue boosts will always be here.

Either you are misunderstanding her, or your less intelligent than your characters icon, and origional name.

OGB or falcon/any sort of multiboxing is not solo 1v1 which is what the OP was talking about, as soon as there is a fleet of more than 1 involved, or two people teaming up, or even a 1v1v1 etc its not solo 1v1.

How many are on the killmail?...and I didn't say solo 1v1. I said a solo guy versus a better equipped solo guy.

It's also a bonus that someone with your mindset spelled DUMBER wrong. Nice one...

This thread is now about how many times you have to edit that post before everything is spelled right with proper usage. Get a forum OGB...I won't hate ya for it it looks like you could use a editorial link or two.
