This looks like an issue with the old launcher (version 1.32) not being able to update itself, its connection drops somewhere during the download.

Please try downloading and installing the launcher manually, the link to the latest version and some instructions can be found at http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_Launcher_Issues_and_Workarounds under the "Information" section. And please let me know if this fixes the problem. :-)

Okay, I followed your instructions. here's the result; double click the "EVEOnlineLauncher_2_1_539169" file, and the nothing happens.

Nothing is appearing in my task manager either.

That sounds odd, have you tried redownloading the file in case it was corrupted? Did you try running it with admin privileges?

I tried redownloading, and it's the same thing; no launcher start-up at all.

When you double click the .exe does anything happen? What operating system are you running?

If I have my file manager open, I do see something come up for the briefest of moments. Blink and I miss it though.

I'm running Windows XP 64bit Pro.

Is there new information for me to go off of? Because I'm more or less up the creek without a paddle here.

My move to the newest version of the launcher appeared to go off without a hitch. Today when I logged though, the issues began.

So, the launcher starts - no probs. But then it fails on a 'Client update'. I get a splash screen appearing which basically says "Exception". Below, iIt gives me a long log report of what's up.

It then gives me the option to say 'OK' or start the game. If I click the start the game button, then it takes to the pre-luancher screen (the one with the roids and Gallente spacestation), I put my PW in, and all's good.

What I can't do is launch multi-clients. If I start up the launcher again, it does nothing.

So, I thought, I'll run the Eve Repair tool. But no, It too now fails to launch.

One thing in common between the error reports for both the luancher and Eve Repair tool is this line

"error: unpack requires a string argument of length 4"

This might help you, I posted this in another thread here:

Quote:
Windows 8 64bit

I had a problem where the launcher would not launch at all after clicking on the EVE desktop icon. I tried to repair it but it did nothing. I also noticed in the repair program that it was intentionally skipping the \launcher folder for some reason. After I saw that, I rummaged through EVE Online\launcher\cache and saw an "updater" file and decided to try that. It fixed it with no problems after.

Hopefully it might help someone here?

Looks like the launcher process stays in memory even after killing it.

If it's loaded there, I can't start the game again after quitting it.

If you try to launch the game again another launcher.exe process will be created, doing nothing.

Eve running on win xp, fully updated.

Hope it helps.

I have found if you go into windows task manager, process tree, and delete all listings of Launcher.exe then it will work.
