Simple and to the point,

Move ice mining from static sties that you sit in for hours, to comets racing across your system. The trick to mining ice, keeping pace as it speeds across your system.

These comets should be random and appear in any system and last for days.
They should contain all ice types but in small not unlimited.

And they should appear in WH space, a bit of love for our WH pilots :)

CCP can control where they appear, how much ice is in them and good luck getting bots to chase these things around the universe.

Flame away :)

Got to love the eve community!

CCP has said repeatedly that WH space will never get ice.

Sorry, you don't get to lock yourselves away in your cute little wormholes and pretend the rest of us don't exist.

As a miner I have to say...NO.

As a random event next to spawning ice belts, it's a brilliant idea. But, there's one obstacle. Irl, comets have much higher speed than the fastest frigate with mwd. Even if CCP would manage to cut down speed of comet to ridiculous level, let's say 100m/s, it could be still hard to catch and follow by mining barges.

Edit: hmm... we have stasis webifiers...

Are you implying that CCP knows Wormhole Space exists?! On a more serious not I don't believe CCP itself has commented one way or the other on the issue. It actually seems to be people like you who keep claiming that there should be no ice in whs, using as your evidence something CCP said when Apocrypha came out 5 years ago. Things have obviously changed. The reality is CCP has sidestepped the issue because they aren't dealing with wh space ATM. The disclusion of ice is intentional because they are busy NOT because of any reason stated an eternity ago.

A bad analogy is like a leaky screwdriver.

Yeah and in real life there is no sound in space. You also can't travel faster than the speed of light. IRL does not apply to eve.

cool idea but I think it would end up something like this:

1. Scan down comet
2. Warp to comet
3. Activate MWD/AB
4. Click approach
5. Mine until full
6. Warp off
7. Go to step 1

I really do like the idea of comets though, they feel much more interesting than what is currently proposed, just maybe needs some tweaking. :)

EDIT: This is still MUCH better than current plans though IMHO.

I guess the basic question is what are we actually gaining by having comets? It's not going to stop bots, if you need prop mods to chase down comets it will require a barge rework, and it doesn't seem to change anything significant to ice mining.

You could always slightly zigzag the comet, so that you would be require to make changes in direction. And also you can currently keep at range on an asteroid can you?

1. Make the comets too fast and ice mining barges (except maybe for the Skiff) become useless at their own job.
2. No need to actively participate. Just set to orbit, and make sure you are fast enough. Nothing changes.
3. Ice is already moving to anomalies, and will no longer be unlimited in high-sec.

Edit: Oh, forgot something:

4. Bots would be better at tracking comets than actual players. Congratulations. You made things worse.
