From my point of view it's not about the extra clicks. Prior to this change I had 6 clients for 6 main accounts. I could launch each client and it would remember that clients username. Then I just enter the password for each, and away I go.
Now it only remembers the one username so I have to type 5 of the usernames manually, which is a bit of a pain.

That said though, I really don't mind and think the new launcher looks and performs considerably better. I also like that CCP supports multi-client, and that there may be a single sign on feature going forward to allow us to launch multiple clients at once.

Though, don't you have the drop down so that after the first time you can now just select the 6 account names from there?

I heard that typing the first few letters will have it guess for you too.

I do have a dropdown but it only seems to remember the one account. In fact it seems to only remember the first account I ever typed into the box.

EDIT: Wow, now that is annoying.
Say for example my account name is Bob and another is Bob1 (they aren't by the way)
It has remembered Bob1. Now when I try to type Bob, I move to the password box and it changes to Bob1. That's not exactly helpful...

Same here, can't tab out of the username box because it will change the username so you have to actually click on the password box instead. Basic HCI at it's finest.

That's almost as good as if you modify an order the prices is highlighted default so if you type you overwrite it, create a new order and the cursor is at the end so you append to it. Nice and consistent behavior for basically the same functionality. Why that had to go and change modify to be highlighted is beyond me, but I digress.

Before CCP have done all above what you said, Give us the old launcher.

So they aren't allowed to do things incrementally and you'd rather have all the bugs be discovered at once in a massive clusterfuck of a patch? Yeah that sounds like a GREAT idea...

The settings thing probably would not have been caught by traditional testing if I'm correct about it being caused by different install locations and SiSi isn't popular enough to handle load testing for things like what happened today.

There will always be problems when changing established systems, just learn to accept and be prepared for it.

You dont release half finished solutions and then say, "yeah, its a work in progress, just deal with it". Correct me if Im wrong, but thats why we have SISI, so things can go wrong and it doesnt have an impact on the playerbase.

Gone from using the launcher to start clients 3 days ago to just having an exefile.exe shortcut on the desktop.

The new launcher is a POC, (peice of crap)

"Perception of benefit" is not the reason for complaints: being unable to play a video game they pay money for because of a broken update with no real benefit to most of the playerbase was the problem.

In which case I can agree with the legitimate concern that CCP gave us very little warning of this patch and we might have been more accepting had we known more in advanced.

However I still think that the major source of it is still the perception that it was a "broken update with no real benefit to most of the playerbase".

It doesn't matter if the problem was caused by one department of CCP or another. It is still a problem and it is still CCPs responsibility to do a proper QA before they roll out new changes.

It also doesn't matter If your code is easy to test or difficult to test, you should always apply the necessary resources to test it. Saying "Oh, this is difficult to test, lets just ship it" is not an option. I also wonder how they managed to miss that settings was cleared on first login. That can't be hard to test and make me wonder if they did any formal QA at all.

So you expect CCP to buy 20,000 computers to bombard the server with to ensure it can handle the load?

Load testing usually requires for **** be live for that to work.

Also the setting clearing thing was an odd case that I assume only happened to people that installed EVE to somewhere besides the default location. Thus any testing done with a default install wouldn't have raised any flags.

At least they figured out rather quickly that it's not actually erasing the settings at all, it's simply misplacing them and is able to find them on the second try :D

While I agree with your act of defending CCP, they actually have ( had? ) something referred to as a "thin client" that was used to do just that sort of stress test, but with many many clients running on a single computer.

Since CCP didn't post this where the vast majority of players might actually find it:

From page 120 (of 126 atm) of the Launcher Dev threadnaught

CCP Guard
"We've had a meeting where we discussed what went wrong around the deployment of the launcher as well as the issues many of you have had with the launcher, the community reaction and our next steps. We realize that communication hasn't been up to par in the last 24 hours. We've mostly focused on messaging workarounds to specific issues in this thread but we haven't been able to address the situation in its entirety. We will be working on writing a dissection of what went wrong yesterday, as well as an FAQ on the launcher, specific problems, and what our next steps are in improving your experience.

This is just the heads up. I wanted you to know that we are working full force over here to make things right with you. Please bear with us for now. "

Op might want to edit that into his initial post
