I am truly saddened by this, I've always enjoyed the unique graphics and, even more so, music on the log in screens. Why cant we lose the launcher and go back to just a login screen??

Yes, marketing totally knows what it is doing, Incarna/cash-shop totally proved that.

Honestly, the gaming industry would be mroe creative, unique, adn toherwise better off, if every company fired their marketing division, or at least put them in a dark room where they had no say or influence on the development team, and instead were just responible for MARKETING instead of DEVELOPMENTAL DECISIONS.


Honestly, with so many MMO's moving to a log-in laucnher, EVE's login screen left it unique, it created a suspense as you logged in, got you excited. hearing that music start up, the Current Build's BG come onscreen, it made you want to login, got you in the mood, it was a TRANSITION.

without the login screen, whenever i start up EVE, i have to keep hecking to remember whether im actually in EVE, or just have a Microsoft Excel window open.

I eman geeze, they took away ship spinning and gave it back after they found out tat players were not-so-enthusiastic with it's departure, hopefully the same happens to the login screen.

As a new player who only started a few months back, it was the retribution login screen that really got me excited on my first login. Lord knows it wasn't the career agent tutorials that sold me on the game early on...

First time I am happy I am on a Mac after an expansion. Still have old launcher and log in screen :).

I guess this was the easiest way to get around the, You'll only see this add once on the old login. Now they can get rid of that pesky feature without saying they're getting rid of it and spam you with adds every time you want to login or even switch characters. A major win for marketing, I doubt it will be log before you see ads for non eve related stuff in the launcher at this rate.

I wonder, did someone check with the CSM? Just to, well, know how do players feel about puting a black login screen instead of the awesome animated login screen that's been a part of EVE for 11 years (since beta)?

Launching multiple accounts isn't as much a pain as it is switching between characters on those accounts. I use all of my characters on all of my accounts fairly often. So having to completely close EVE ever time I want to switch between characters is just annoying and cumbersome. At the very least they need to add a way to switch between characters on an account without having to completely close the game to do so.

The old login system sets up a socket connection that has a timeout, this new system has no timeout.

For easier multiple logins:

Launcher settings (Gear icon, upper right) > Startup Tab > Close the eve launcher after starting eve online << disable this

edit: I do wonder what other features the launcher has, eating up 87Mb of memory.. automation/botting detection features?

Seriously though, why does it seem like the Industry hates login screens, as a non-EVE example, I recall Guild Wars 2 having a fantastic login screen during beta, only to replace it with logging in via the launcher.

I've always loved EVE's login screens and music, and part of the excitement of a new expansion for me has always been seeing the new one, which is perhaps silly, I'll admit.

To keep it positive, what's been your favourite login screen over the years?

really? you pull a "lets remove ship spinning" again on us? Have you learned nothing? Yes, small things ppl are used to MATTER for the experience.

P.S. for pushing multiple account use you make it really a mess switching....common, who didn't pay attention when making the desicion here?!

My favourite login music is probably Apocrypha, my favourite login screen was that one with the V3 sacrilege shooting its lasers in time with the music.

Hopefully CCP can figure out how to do WebGL login screens with sound for the launcher.
