Amarr and Missiles

Hi fellow space friends,

I am currently in the process of getting my missile skills up to par and I have a question for my missile spewing brethren. Being Amarr what support skills would benefit me the most? I am at the moment taking Rockets, Heavy Assault Missiles and Torpedo's to level 5 and their specializations to 4. After that I am kind of lost, is it me or is the missile support skill tree broken and confusing? For example will I benefit from training Target Navigation Prediction and Guided Missile Precision if I am only using rockets, hams and torps? If it helps I will be flying all Khanid ships and any ship in the Amarr T1/T2/T3 lineup that takes advantage of this weapon platform. Any advice and questions are welcome and encouraged!

Thanks in advance,

Aral

Roughly in order of importance (debatable, eg. I consider range > damage with long-range missiles, especially for rookies):

  • Target Navigation Prediction: Increases the explosion velocity of all missiles. More damage to moving ships.
  • Guided Missile Precision: Decreases the explosion radius of all missiles. More damage to smaller signature ships. Very important for short-range missiles which have a larger explosion radius than long-range missiles, but helpful for both.

  • Missile Launcher Operation: Increase rate of fire (DPS) by reducing the cycle time.
  • Rapid Launch: Increase rate of fire (DPS) by reducing the cycle time.

  • Missile Projection: Increases missile range by increasing missile velocity. With delayed damage, velocity is more important than flight time, but both are still helpful with short range missiles.
  • Missile Bombardment: Increases missile range by increasing missile flight time.

  • Warhead Upgrades: Increases Missile damage (less so than the above skills).

Don't train: Defender Missiles. Completely useless.

Consider training: Auto-targeting Missiles. Useful only if you carry them, and don't want to be limited by your targeting capabilities (if ECM jammed, damped / or want to hit a target outside your targeting range). They always seek the closest valid target.

Torps & Bombs are useful to train for a Bomber, and you already have the other missile support skills anyways. Bomb Deployment > 1 is required for the non-damage bombs, and level 4 covers them all.

Great post. I am going to steal this and post it for my newbie carebears.

Nice post Tau Cabalander, good information there. I guess what I am trying to figure out is what support skills do not affect Rockets, HAM's and Torp's. I have heard there are some that only affect guided missiles and I want to avoid training something I will never have a need for.

Read my post above again. Note that I stated "all missiles".

That was once the case for Guided Missile Precision -- all short-range missiles like HAM, rockets, and torpedoes are unguided -- but CCP changed it so that ALL missiles are affected. Same applies for Rigor rigs, which previously also only affected guided missiles. Note that both affect explosion radius.
