hey m8s!

I am a 6 weeks player, and I’d like to pvp (aka to be a prey, I don’t mind). I know I will need some months of training, to have the very basic skills to have a chance in a fight. Guides around say that I could pvp almost immediately, after a week or so, and I like that. But I am thinking:

I can afford losing 5 frigs a day, with moderate equip. But I cannot afford to lose (let’s say, if I am lucky) 3 times my +3 implants (4 implants x 9mil x3 times=108mil !!).

So, my options are:

a) To create a clone, without implants. Then, I could pvp but with slow learning the skills I need to pvp.
b) to learn faster the skills I need to pvp (implants), but without doing pvp. Ugh

Is this strange only to my eyes?

Is there something I don’t know and I didn’t find in the several guides I read? Do you have any advice for a rookie like myself?

Thx in advance!

Don't get podded.

When you feel you're about to lose your ship:

1) Align to some object you can warp to.
2) Zoom all the way out.
3) Spam your "warp" button until your ship explodes and you warp off.
4) Keep warping until your combat aggression expires.
5) Leave system, being mindful of smartbombers on the way to each of your out-gates.

Good luck!

(FYI, these rules don't really apply in wh/null, where you can be trivially bubbled and podded during the fight or on the way back.)

I suggest you follow JAF Anders advice, but also start with an empty jump clone. Once you know how to get your pod out, then go pvp with your implanted clone, and then you can pvp whenever you want without losing skill training time.

(That is if you stay in lowsec - don't go to wh or nullsec where there are bubbles).

Good advice given above.

Also when I started and I didn't know how to get my pod out I would just use 2 attribute implants.

Most skills are either intel and memory or perception and willpower. Have a clone with each pair and you are set. Losing a pod won't be that disasterous and you learn a good habit of getting your pod out.

Other things that can make you lose your pod include the session timers to warp or jump, and getting blapped by a gate camp when you are trying to burn back to a gate.

Ty all for reply.

good advice given.

I fly the last week in low sec with a nano-fitted-slasher, with cloak-mwd trick, and I started being familiar with gate camps, intel, safe spots, insta-undocks etc. I dont even care guns, I play the prey. Many times camped and hunted, never being killed (yet). I am not afraid anymore, I am getting better and better in escaping.

But it is different when you intent to dog-fight. I will try naked clone for start, then +2 implants, and when I will be able to make more money I will go for +3.

m8s, I have to admit that low sec, even for a noob like me, has something in the air, a beauty, adrenaline rush...

cant stand hi sec anymore...

I find myself linking to this article a lot lately. Good information there that can get any newbie pilot into PvP right away. Cheap, fast, durable and fun. I occasionally take those things out when I feel like shooting at something but don't want to risk financial damage. The more friends you have that can join you, the more hilarity ensues.

Fweddit used to do the cheap effective ship thing. There is no doubt that from a pure isk efficiency standpoint the cheaper mods and ships can offer a good strategy.

I do not agree that you get more fights with tons of cheap fits than you do with a few well fit ships. The enemy deciding whether to fight, does not know whether you are fit well or not they will just see a ton of ships.

"Get three or four of them [derptrons] together and you can take down a cruiser or two" I would love to be that cruiser. But then again in low sec I typically fit my cruisers to fight frigates.

You could use Estel Arador Corp services to set up some jump-clones, but that's a little advanced for a new character I think. Much better to learn how to avoid podding.

Give a man a match and you warm him for a day.

Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life!

If you get podded in anywhere but null or w-space you either have terrible latency or you dont have/know how to use a podsaver tab :D

1. Learn how to get your pod out. You should be able to save it 9 out of 10 times when not in a warp bubble.
2. Cheap implants, or none at all, can be the norm. I used +1's untill I had a better grip of PVP (I now use +3's).
3. Quicker skill training is not worth constant replacements. Time spent lerning2pvp is far, far more valuable.

You don't need to align out.. pods warp instantly

When you're about to die just pick something on your overview and spam warp
