Since they fired the guy organising FF, id hold you breath, its most likely going to be a complete mess this time.

Also the package deals are usually a ripoff. Booking seperate flights and hotel is cheaper.

So far i think most of the 30 people i was booking for FF are cancelling they plans to go.

Veto, you guys have always been straight up and honorable.

Thank you for that heads up....

That would just be my luck, hahahaha.

About hotels, what are a few good ones close to Fanfest? Or somewhere were it's mostly populated by Eve-players?

Also, I've read that the current exchange rate for the USD to the Icelandic dollar is 1:77. Saying this, how much would a normal meal for a single person cost? Should I just bring a suitcase full of money?

I have spoken with CCP Tyr, and Fanfest is absolutely on as announced in this blog. Nothing has changed and we will bring you updates on this in the coming weeks.

I'm just waiting on the event tickets to be released now, I've got flights, hotels and transfers sorted.

Regarding the pub Crawl with a dev is that something that can be booked in advance?

Thanks

There will be signups at the venue itself, but I wouldn't be too worried about missing a spot -- I've never seen a lack of volunteers for the pub crawls. Smile

I'm planning on attending the 2012 fanfest, this will be my first time so I'm sitting here checking everything for prices on the tickets aswell as the Iceland air packages, if anyone can give me an estimate of what the prices could run for that would be great because i would like to actually be in iceland for fanfest 2012 and not at home behind my computer watching it, don't get me wrong the coverage was awesome but I would feel better beeing there.

How strict is the 20 drinking law in iceland? I know here in Scotland especially in large groups it is pretty easy to get away with being underaged (under 18) without ID in pubs (not so much in off licenses). Is this the case in Iceland or would I need too get some fake IDs to drag my 18yr old (19 by the time the fanfest arrives) ass around the bars?

Here's a Fanfest pro tip - don't sign up for any CCP panels / round tables regarding Faction Warfare, you'll find yourself quite lonely!

If you get past the door the likelyhood of being asked for an ID at the bar is trivial.

But it really depends on the place, and the door surveillance is very often VERY strict but at few times not.
Also some places have a higher age limit in, 25 years is common for those.

Yeah, the departure of CCP Tyr is more than a little worrying, not to mention the fact that it's the first time they're holding it in the new conference centre.

Also confirming that separate booking are the way to go, the whole shebang only cost me a shade over £300 last year, and I booked fairly late (January).

Okay so, a little back story: I first started to play Eve when I was 12 (Sorry, I lied when I clicked the 'Age of 13 or higher) and I just turned 18 this past July. I've always wanted to go to Fanfest, but because of the fact I was still a minor I couldn't.

So, long story short I am going to be going to Iceland next year for Fanfest, but I have literally no idea what to bring or what are the best deals for plane tickets/winter gear, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Temperature wise, it's not that bad. Bring a winter coat, one where you can pull the lining out to make a spring jacket.
Hat, gloves, boots. Last fanfest it was barely above freezing most of the time. I had to worry more about the rain then the cold. (I'm Canadian, so anything above freezing is warm enough)

Costs, my wife and I went for around $3,000(can, but is basically the same as USD).

Food was a LITTLE more expensive, but not much more then your normal Mall food. Pizza's under 20$, burgers, under $10.

What to take?

Phone(WITH ROAMING PLAN, or WiFi)
Laptop(If you have one/want one)
Tablet(If you have one/want one)
Money.
Passport
ID(Drivers license)
clothing for a week. Take extra. You may get your clothes wet due to snow/rain/beer/Pee(laughing too hard).
Books/ebooks for down time
BRING EXTRA LUGGAGE. You will want to buy some shirts/swag from the EVE store.
Camera(if you're not using your phone).

I'd recommend going/staying a few days more, and exploring Iceland. There are many trips that can be done for low cost, and all through one service you can schedule from your hotel. 3-5hr tour for 30$-50$

Hook up with corp/alliance mates and go with them. Hell, hook up with people from your RED list. It's still more fun then solo.

FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS FiS MIcrotransactions are for DEAD MMO's. NOT for successfull ones. I already pay for 5 accounts. I WILL NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING ELSE!!!

@ CCP Spitfire: Sweet, I didn't know there were going to be package deals. Once they are posted, where would I go find them once they've been announced to the public?

@ Signal11th: Sweet, would you have any recommendations of any brands of winter jackets/other winter gear that isn't super expensive but still mighty good. Also, how would I get to the Blue Lagoon?

@ Brooks: I thought you needed your passport to buy drinks and such not?

@ Wacktopia: I've been shaving since I was 11.

Also, I've read that the current exchange rate for the USD to the Icelandic dollar is 1:77. Saying this, how much would a normal meal for a single person cost? Should I just bring a suitcase full of money?

Winter Jackets: North Face/Helly Hansen/Berghaus/Colombia anything really that will keep you warm If you have worn a coat in winter and it keep you warm (as long as your don;t live in the Bahamas) that will do

Blue Lagoon is in Grindavik which you will pass on your way from the airport to Rek, so basically if you want to go there just drive back towards the airport and you will see a sign for Grindavik.

Try and go to Geyser as well although not have as impressive since some tosspot dropped a large boulder down it.
