EVE says "GRONK"

So, I'm with a gang of people, hovering around a FW outpost, and we get word of an opposing group coming in. Awesome. I fly my Punisher over to the warp-in point, pre-load lasers and web, and get lock on a Condor as it lands... double-awesome. He crumbles pretty fast, and is halfway into armor when my guns and web deactivate. Wha?

Okay, fine, something's weird. I hit the button to turn the guns back on, and instead of any normal thing happening, I get a yellow flare around the gun button for a quarter-second and EVE makes this weird "GRONK" noise at me. Huh?

Check... I've still got a lock. I've still got cap. The guy's not dead, nor out of range. Hit the button again. "GRONK." o.O ?!?

On the third whack, the lasers finally re-engaged, but I'd lost about ten seconds, while sitting RIGHT in the middle of a small gang frigate fight, so you know how things went from there.

I don't really mind the "blown up and then podded by unpleasant persons at a gatecamp on the way home" thing so much... I buy and fit frigates six at a time for a reason... but I really would like to know: What does it MEAN, when you hit the guns button, and get "GRONK"?

We're you capped out? I've run into Rocket Condors with a neut in the utility slot which can be a nasty surprise if you're flying cap intensive ships like Amarr

It means you got your safeties on, and you are trying to shoot at an illegal target.

Not if her tale is accurate - she was already shooting it.

This is why I often start FRAPS before I engage. Too many things to take in during combat and excellent for learning how to improve.

I estimate the odds that the tale is accurate is lower than my guess.

If the pilot was alone, ok. But a whole friendly gang was there, another friendly could have easily shot the target into armor while the preactivated modules failed due to safety settings (if you have a whole gang of friendlies there, and a hostile Condor lands on 0km, it should have been melted in the blink of an eye really if every was shooting it)

Besides FRAPS, this pilot could also simply check their own logs. See if any hits were generated. My isk is on safety settings.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. I just lost an Incursus to an arty cane because I hit Keep at Range instead of Orbit. Would have sworn I orbited but FRAPS proved otherwise!

just curious: does FRAPS show you shortcuts you pressed? Or you use mouse to click these buttons?

The little pop up notification box tells you: Orbiting "target" at XXX meters or Keeping at range "target" at XXX meters on screen.

You could read this on FRAPS I guess.
