Because there's no such thing as a gun that fires an explosive round. Obviously all tank/artillery/ship mounted weapons are nothing but a giant piece of metal.

Because a missile warhead couldn't be rigged with a casing that would utilize shrapnel to deliver kinetic damage. Ever heard of a pipe bomb? Fragmentation grenade? Spoiler alert... it's not the explosion that kills you.

sounds legit, they're all myths and lies created by our governments and the media to control our minds and subdue the hard working little man.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

How the heck did projectiles become explosive and missiles become kinetic damage types? Do physics work differently in Iceland? Surely a bullet striking something is purely kinetic energy and a missile exploding is, uh, explosive. So why, then, did the game ever turn these two common sense, real world damage types around??

First of all don't think of projectiles as small caliber bullets. eve projectiles are more like artillery projectiles. and are able to carry specific loads that allow it to deal different types of damage. the smallest projectile in game is 125mm that is roughly 5 inches in diameter more then capable of carrying different loads.

the same goes for missiles you can have a missile that is like a arrow that has a hardened head that slams into the target causing straight kinetic damage. you can have the missile with a emp generator that explodes right before impact causing emp damage. the thermal could be like modern shaped charge missile that use a explosion to send a jet of molten metal thru the armor causing thermal damage. and then your standard high yield explody missiles

edit PS. explosive is technically not a real damage type it is a damage cause. a explosion would be kinetic and thermal damage. kinetic from the blast wave and thermal from the heat.

Oh **** son you just got owned.

This is a game where there is sound in a vacume, faster than light engiens, and objects stopping on a dime with no friction, and THAT is what you point out as a violation of physics?

Think of how many types of artillery and tank shells have a name that starts with 'high-explosive'

Also consider that there is such a thing as a kinetic kill missile that exists now. it's basically a pointy block of metal attached to a rocket engine (it's a rock that throws itself), though apparently EvE kinetic missiles use a gravimetric warhead or somesuch.

Nonono, Your Ships brain-computer interface generates the sound as a secondary information input vector so You won't have to strain Your poor overused visual cortex by staring at those clearly outdated 3d holo cubes. Also the Jove say You go insane in Your pod without any auditory input and if they say it, it has to be true.
