If you think this has anything to do with the virtual protests I have a bridge to sell you plus some nice prime realestate in Florida.

While I feel nothing but sympathy for those that lost their jobs this has everything to do with CCP getting financially overextended and letting it's reach exceed its grasp, and nothing to do with actually trying to make nice with the player base.

Losing subscriptions (not jita protests) likely did not put them into any financial danger directly, but I'm sure it tipped the balance with investor confidence. CCP had very ambitious goals and without the confidence of their investors they had to scale back.

Personally I think Hilmarr is using the protests etc to spin this as a response to player rage. But the reality I think has to do with CCPs balance sheet. You can see this through the fact that they fired most of their community relations team and their Senior DBA for EVE?!?!

Unfortunately I see very little but pain for CCP going forward. Pushing DUST out exclusively to the PS3 I think is an epically bad idea. Plus banking on making money through micro-transactions from an FPS is a similarly epically bad idea. FPS have a very short life span, and there's plenty more comming out from very large studios with very large budgets all the time. I don't see the persistent universe being anywhere close to a good enough draw to get the FPS audience to forsake the latest COD, BFx , etc and stay on Dust.

Yes I am very cynical, but unless Hilmar had a serious come to jesus moment I can't reconcile the arrogant Hilmar of 3 months ago with the supposedly penitent Hilmar of today.

I agree about the micro transactions on a FPS game. It just wont work. Most people that play console games dont want to deal with the same hassles that computer games do, like micro transactions. CCP is also losing my 50 dollars because they are not thinking clearly and only releasing it for PS3 and not the Xbox 360 =(
